Most of this is old news. Somewhat more definitive as to issuing invites, but still murky as to what happens after that.
The Big East plans to invite Boise State, Air Force and Navy as football-only members, and Central Florida to compete in all sports, after it doubles the exit fee for current members to $10 million, a conference official told The Associated Press.

Big East officials were meeting with UCF representatives Friday, as the conference closed in on extending formal invitations for expansion, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad. A conference call of Big East presidents and chancellors was scheduled for later Friday, the source said.

Expansion is likely within seven to 10 days, and a vote on increasing the league's exit fees also is expected in the next 48 to 72 hours, the source said.

But a source with knowledge of the Big East told ESPN's Andy Katz the conference's remaining football schools would be hesitant to agree to increasing the exit fee, as all of them are still looking elsewhere.

Still looks like football schools don't want to increase exit fees. Has Marinatto gone off the reservation again?

What about Temple? They bring value in basketball and football, I know about the objections of Nova but too bad we need them. My second choice would be Memphis, very good basketball program, I'm not too familiar with their football program but with Fed-Ex money behind them it won't take them long to be competitive.

Amazing. They made the choices I would make.

Air Force, Boise State and Navy in football only and Central Florida, Houston and SMU as full members

Shelve the Philly decision and ECU until WVU and LU is resolved. Consider going to 14 with Nova and ECU at a later date if Nova wants to upgrade and WVU and LU stay.

Hopefully these schools have already agreed to join. The last thing the Big East needs is a rejection of the offer.

yea, once again it's all his fault because the 6 FB schools don't want to commit to the league and potential members won't come on unless there is that commitment. He is not even allowed to extend an invite with 1st getting approval from the Presidents who can't agree on anything. The FB schools are on the horn begging all over the country for a landing spot, while pieces are blowing up all around them.

I really hope this is the end so we can all get wherever the hell we are going.
Hey, you're right. You are right. I can understand your frustration. The football "stranded ones" just have to man up and stop shaking and fretting and pissing their pants. If you're going to get shot, then you attack the mf with the gun and hope for the best. That's all you can do. But take heart. I do think that certain elements are starting to see this.

This leaves 25 ugly teams in the WAC, MWC, and C-USA after the WAC adds 3 FBS newbies next year.

Temple, Hawaii, Nevada, Southern Miss, UMess, SDSU, Ohio, Western Michigan, North Texas -- I can't cobble together anything from the remainders that doesn't spell suck.

I expect some ripples and a consolidation as the MWC looks more like the WAC.

Looking at the remnants available for the New MWC/WAC, C-USA might want to look at a MAC alliance instead. Or suicide.

If the 6 FB schools don't agree on the 10 million they're idiots. Save the league now and pay the 10 million later. Dumb asses.

Per Andy Katz on Midnight Madness, SMU and Houston are receiving football only invitations.

If Boise St, Air force, Houston and SMU commit, the departure fee will be raised to $10 mm. UCF will get an invitation for all sports (no change in the fee if they join) and the BE will reopenm discussion with Navy for football only.

Seriously, just do it. All the football schools can come up with $10 million if/when they need to.

SMU and Houston should be all sports. Make them a real part of the conference. If this works out well and is wildly successful, we don't need Houston and SMU sniffing around the Big 12 in 3 years simply because they are second class citizens in the Big East. WTF.

I fully agree and the cynic in me believes that this is designed to fail, a few people will say "we tried to get into Texas" while knowing full well there never was any real intent.

Within two years Houston and SMU would probably field better basketball teams than Seton Hall, Depaul and Providence. There was a Globe article saying Houston and SMU would be all sports, I hope they are right.

Well, the globe has SMU and Houston as getting bids to be full members, so I'm not sure which is accurate. Though if I remember correctly Blaudschun has been breaking most of the news on this story and has mostly had it right. We shall see.

I just don't get it. I am actually kind of optimistic about the group being discussed. It could really cause the ACC some serious headaches if it pans out. I feel like the presidents of WVU, RU, UL and UConn are so dead set against being in the Big East that they have lost their minds at this point.

Bring in the best teams with the intent of staying together. If you get a better offer later, pay up and leave. They are setting themselves up to look like fools if they don't get an invite elsewhere.

A lot of this comes down to the hoops only members not wanting to add schools that far away only to have them as permanent conference members in a few years when UConn, WVU, et al (schools they have shared a conference with for many years) are gone. They do have the right to object to this so (once again, the major issue with a hybrid conference) keeping everyone happy is not a possibility, the most convenient (and often easiest) compromise is normally the path that ends up being taken.

As I imagine that the football onlies (Boise St, Air Force & Navy) could care less about what happens to the basketball conference while those left behind would have few ties with the catholic members, an arrangement where once two of UConn, WVU, Rutgers, Louisville & Cincy leave, there will be a split so the catholic membership would not be stuck in a conference with SMU, Houston, UCF, etc.

Side note, Katz now claiming SMU & Houston as all sports members!!!!!

What is wrong with treating the basketball and football conferences as two separate entities. One having absolutely nothing to do with the other. Why can't Uconn be a member of the Catholic conference in BB, and the other conference in FB?

This felt like a kick in the ribs. Katz just announced that Air Force has cooled to the idea of joining because Navy doesn't appear to be willing while Boise St appears to be remaining in the MWC. Per Katz, this may stop the invitations to SMU and Texas (why?). If this is true, I don't know what to say.

Well, it is the Big East. They'd manage to duck up a wet dream. You have to believe the MWC leadership is really selling Boise on staying by saying they will use BSU's rankings to wrestle away the AQ bid from the Big East. Every time you think were about to survive you get a fresh kick in the nuts.

And now it's being reported that current BE football schools will agree to raise the exit fee, on the condition all four of Boise, AFA, SMU and Houston agree to join.

Interesting.

While the Big East 6 have probably not been sending new members a lot of warm and fuzzies, ESPN can absolutely NOT be trusted. McMurphy from CBS, along with every other news source, is not reporting anything like this.

ESPN is likely behind the CUSA/MWC alliance.
