Eh, they deserve it for amount of ish they talked when it was UConn vs. Pitt for Hurley and then pretending that Capel was the #1 choice all along when Hurley chose UConn.

Pitt also was in a different situation with a bit more flexibility with 7+ announced transfers before the new coach was hired. No one at UConn had announced a transfer and Hurley didn't want to run anyone off the team (which will likely pay dividends down the road).

Capel does deserve credit for reeling in Xavier Johnson (for which he can thank Kenya Hunter on that one) and getting McGowens and Toney to reclassify to 2018. That's a solid class.

But still, going into February without a 2019 commit is not the best thing for 2019 recruiting and it was fun to laugh at them while we had 3 top 100 guys already committed, including one they wanted.

Bingo. They had 2018 class flexibility due to pretty much their entire team initiating the transfer process that was the deciding factor in their ability to get guys like McGowens and Toney. If the guys they had on OV’s this weekend commit, they’ll have 5 scholarships tied up in incoming freshmen who aren’t even on the top 100 radar which is a lot of roster space to spend on lottery tickets. Screw Pitt.

As my wife is a double Pitt grad and Panther Club member, she doesn't rank the shock and disappointment of that game as high as Sid Bream's slide, but it is a top 5 worst Pittsburgh sports moment for her any many local Pitt alumni.

Let us never mention the Sid Bream slide in any form ever.

Interesting that now that flexibility is being called an advantage when I took some heat for saying the same thing last off-season when the coaching changes were going on...

Hunter was the lead recruiter on him. When Kenya took the job on our staff, Johnson decommitted from Nebraska

Yes.
Fair enough.

I really thought he was gonna end up here.

I guess that’s why I was curious on your comment.

Does anyone know if Johnson wanted to follow Hunter and, if so, if we turned him down in favor of BAdams?

Is it possible that Hurley and staff were so focused, immediately, on certain guys they believed were better (Gaffney) than Johnson for the long run that they took the short term Smith option instead? Of course, that would mean they took BAdams as a career backup.
