"I'm not really too sure on what to do," Karaban told reporters on Saturday morning. "It's been a long wait, I know. It's been a process trying to decide what I want to do. I've been at UConn for a while and I just love this place so much. It is hard to leave places that you love, but at the same time, it's also my dream to go to the NBA."

"The coaches have been super supportive of whatever decision I want to do. They're by my side, no matter what. They're letting me take as much time as I need."

When is the deadline to decide? I thought I read it was April 19th?

He should return with the understanding it’s also a training year for coaching. It should just be an open assistant coach in waiting type situation like what Duke did for Scheyer. He meant that much to the program and has the leadership and teaching gene. Not sure he’s an NBA guy. Definitely a future coach.

He is an nba guy. lol. size and shooting. I think he is a second round pick and and is trying to weigh if He can get a guaranteed two way deal or a two way contract. Two way? I think he should come back. He can always get a two way. If someone is gonna give him a 3 year deal, similar to what Andre Jackson got, then he should go.

He said his dream is to play in the NBA which makes me think he’s gone. Yes, he could’ve gone last year but maybe he doesn’t want to delay any longer. Just my gut but feels like he’s gone.

PS: Luke is following Derrion Williams from TTU and vice versa for whatever that’s worth.

Not my field of expertise but I would think Alex and the staff could reach out to a few to several teams that are for the bottom half of the second round and see if any could give him assurance that he would get a guaranteed contract like Andre Jackson got. If not, NBA would not make since as he is enjoying UCONN and he would make much more that Adama did to stay

I'm sure Karaban's agent has been doing that. Coaches don't have to do that stuff any more.

Andre Jackson had an elite aspect to his game…AK does not

Jonathan Givony has him mocked as a top 35 pick right now… Givony is as well connected in that space as anyone, so if he puts that out there, it’s what he is hearing.
Great point. Givony is super connected

Okay, so now we know and can turn our attention to other matters until he makes his choice.

I'd welcome Alex's return, and support whatever choice he makes.

Should be a brief thread.
This is one of your best. Dry as a bone.

agree on Givony
if he’s top 35 would have very good chance
on a 2 way generally worth $550.k
even if he got a guaranteed contract, it would probably be the NBA minimum of 750,000

Time to recruit over him (they must be)- if he returns and has competition from a new commit, let them both compete for their minutes through regular practice scrimmages

And we are back to the point where Jackson can't get off the bench. Does he get a 2nd deal? IDK. So much of the NBA is fit / rotation. Alex will only be in this situation once. I'm good with whatever he does, but understand why he might want to come back.

I love AK, he obviously bleeds blue and he’ll make a nice living playing basketball but it won’t be in the NBA. I think the decision is NIL or a life of bouncing around the G League/overseas which I can imagine is tough.

I’d LOVE to have him back as a coach if he chose that route…

Not sure he is a pro. Play for the G league or get a nice check for a place he loves and loves him. Not to sure he would be a first rounder which is guaranteeed. Alex just stay!
I assume you mean "not sure he's an NBA player" because players in the G league are pros. Players in Europe and Asia are pros.
