Karaban pre-season All American

Beat me to it

Love to see it. Anyone know the last preseason 1st team All American we've had?

The undisputed leader of a team looking to 3 peat, 2 time champion himself, going into his junior year

Congrats and well deserved Alex! Time to go prove why it was the right decision

Alex is going to be clinical this year - his stage. His smarts, experience and motivation to prove draft analysts he’s a first round pick are gonna make him an animal this year.

Having him and Hassan on the floor ring leading are a big part of the 3-peat potential.

Love, love, love it! Well deserved for one of the grittiest, smartest, hardest working guys in college basketball. Nice to see the rest of the country recognizing what we've all known the last two years.

Alongside him on the Blue Ribbon Report First Team is Kansas center Hunter Dickinson, North Carolina guard RJ Davis, Arizona guard Caleb Love and Alabama guard Mark Sears. Creighton center Ryan Kalkbrenner, on the third team, was the only other Big East player recognized.

UConn star forward Alex Karaban named preseason First Team All-American

Nice to see they didn't put Cooper Flagg on the First Team before he ever steps on a college court.
They knocked him all the way down to 2nd team.

Second Team
Johni Broome (Auburn), Cooper Flagg (Duke), Wade Taylor IV (Texas A&M), Zakai Zeigler (Tennessee), Braden Smith (Purdue)

This sucks. One less tool for motivational purposes.

(I joke. Well deserved and congrats to AK)

The funny part of the list of first teamers is that UConn's "old man" is the youngest on the first team AA list.

Dickenson - 23 (24 in November)
Davis - 22 (23 in October)
Love - 22 (23 in September)
Sears - 22 (23 in February)
Karaban - 21 (22 in November)

Dickenson, Love, Davis and Sears are all extra year COVID holdovers who are happy to collect NIL, as is Broome on the 2nd team. Without the extra COVID year, the 1st team would be Karaban, Flagg, Taylor, Ziegler and Smith. who knows who would still be playing college ball w/o NIL money.

I feel like Caleb Love gets worse every year.

Wonder where he will be on the Big East preseason teams. Probably honorable mention as voted by the coaches. He has never received the conference respect he should have

He's pretty good unless it's a big game with 5 minutes left and then he had a 75% chance to shoot you out of the game.

I am so, so curious how his season is going to go without Edey.
Same - I for one am not nearly as high on him post Edey. Edey was that team, and he changed the entire floor for sub athletes. I’d ask how much of Smith’s assists were Edey or as a result of open men Edey attracted defenders away from.

He needs to get a lot stronger. Big reason they lost in both 2023 and 2024 is because Braden got absolutely dog walked by more physical defenders

I’m obviously biased but I’m much higher on Karaban successfully stepping into the #1 option role than Braden because AK understands his system and is set up to thrive in it. Edey was Purdue’s system, and even though Braden can get buckets, it will be hard for him to succeed as a scorer at 6’0 unless he’s strong enough to not get bullied

I'm surprised Kalkbrenner is 3rd team. I thought he would have been 2nd or perhaps even 1st team.

Goes to show you what clowns the Big East coaches are, AK didn't even make Honorable Mention All Big East after last year and he starts the year as Pre Season All-American. SMH

At some point, probably sooner rather than later, BE coaches are going to wake up and start voting UConn team and players preseason #1 in everything.

It won't stop our team from raining murder on them in the games, but the less pre-season motivation they give us the better for them.
