Last night Solo, Ross and the young pups led the way and were impressive, but I was also impressed with Karaban.
The guy had 4 points and realized the didn't need a big night from him. In the opening minutes, when the team struggled,
he was trying to rally them and stir up energy. He just does whatever it takes to win. Some seniors, with the loft expectations of them,
would have forced a lot of shots or tried to 'get theirs', but he just doesn't do that. For the most part, he just makes winning plays.
The man already has 2 rings and easily could be going for numbers and no one would blame him. We need to enjoy watching him while
we can. In this day and age, their aren't many that are cut from the same cloth.

What has impressed me the most this year is his improvement around the rim.

When this team hits a lull, they always call something involving Alex going to the rim either on or off ball and he almost always hits it.

This team is so much better designed for him to not have to force shots that are not there and so he is not forcing the issue as much and it is paying dividends for his game.

I'm pretty sure when Karaban hangs up his UConn jersey he will be among the leaders in all time wins at the school.
He will be #1, surpassing Samson Johnson who claimed that honor at the end of last season.
Samson Johnson leads with 115. Karaban currently at 103 with 19 regular season games plus the tournaments. Could well be one of those records that is never broken.

AK is easily one of my favorite UConn players of all time. He does so much that doesn't appear in the stat sheet. And the best part is that we don't need him to be the man this year, which allows him to do what he's best at...being the glue.

He'll be a no brainer Husky of Honor.

Dreading the “Karaban in concussion protocol" post based on what i've read in the postgame thread
I don’t think so. He would have been taken out of the game and already been in the protocol I think. Wasn’t he concussed last year too?

Yeah he missed at least one game, maybe two last year for it. That looked like a brutal contact with the floor and he immediately reached back and grabbed his head. I could hardly believe he wasn’t promptly subbed out for the rest of the game. There’s no way he wasn’t examined for it afterwards.

You can hit your head and it not be a concussion. It was a good smack, but he just seemed to be in pain. He wasn't unstable or glass eyed. As soon as he was up he motioned to the bench he was fine.
Last year, you could clearly see something was wrong. They've had some scary falls as a team the last few years, and he's had 3 or 4. Didn't he and SJ have plays where their hands ripped off the rim and they came down face first?

After that hit I saw him stretching while waiting for Butler to shoot FTs. The stretch where you're on one foot while bending your other leg up to your butt. You're not doing that if you're loopy. You'lll wobble or fall down.

Yeah Idk if it’s just because I’m older and more cautious in life now but there have been many times when I’ve braced for players landing and had a reflex of concern for injury. Even last night Solo had a time when he got totally undercut and came down totally horizontal. But for Karaban the previous concussion is all the more reason to be perhaps overly concerned for such a head bang and definitely have him checked out for it.

I think is also just the day and age we live in now knowing about CTE, but he looked like he was thinking clearly. Unfortunately, I've suffered a few myself. I get being cautious, but I also think the staff trusts AK and if he said he was okay they trust his word. And I don't think we'd ever know, but I think he was probably checked out at halftime out of precaution.

Yeah probably so. And not only did look like he was moving fine afterwards, but Hurley still took him out for most of the rest of the game anyway. Side note: I loved seeing Tarris check him out closely with such genuine care as soon as he got up. What a guy.

He was also defending Ajayi, so maybe his offense wasn't top priority last night.
Took a look at the box score and the Ajayi kid can fill a sheet. But 8 points from him wasn’t beating UCONN. Alex was off from the perimeter, Solo was hot, and the Mullins kid needed looks. A real luxury is not depending on Karaban to score. Just like having Ross coming off the bench as an energy guy on D.

I don't think Karaban was off from the perimeter. He only took 3 shots, made 2 of them that I think were both layups, and the miss was his only three. Do you mean he just didn't score because he didn't shoot?

That sounds right. Only 3 shots in 25 minutes. Just a weird game where he didn’t need to score and UCONN still wins by 20.
