2027 Recruiting: Kaleena Smith

Smith named MVP of recent Addidas All-American Camp:

MVP: Kaleena Smith (7 Days ’27) –

33.3 PPG | 4.7 REB | 6.3 AST | 2.7 STL | 0.3 BLK 66.7% FG | 59% 3PT | PER 81.2

All of those numbers are amazing, which of course leads to a PER that is almost beyond belief, even for a 7 day event.

It's not a 7 day event, only 2 from Oct. 11-12. 7 Days is the name of the club team she plays for during the summer.

The game competition may have been limited somewhat since only kids who play on the Adidas summer circuit were invited however the camp included kids from 3 classes, 2026-2028. But regardless, 59% from 3 is still 59%! And she doesn't take only 2 a game. At her size, it's ridiculous for her to be able to control games the way she does.

Keleena just signed with adidas. She has an instagram post in a Tennessee uniform but says not committed. I’m afraid Candace will steer her there. But who knows.

There's probably a decent possibility since Tennessee will become an Adidas school starting July 1 2026. Smith signed with Adidas in Nov. of 2024.

I’ll still choose to look at the glass half full. Saniyah Hall, a Jordan Brand athlete, signed with USC over UCLA (who are a Jordan school). Milaysia Fulwiley (Curry/UA) and Hailey Van Lith (Adidas) both signed with Nike sponsored LSU.

Remaining optimistic on Kaleena’s chances being a Husky.

I meant that there’s a good possibility that Parker will try to steer her to Tennessee, not that Smith will necessarily go there.

Oh, for sure. I’m sure she had a hand in landing Oliviyah Edwards as well.

Regarding Tennessee and their coach's style of play, unless an exception is made, I don't see Smith being excited about coming out of the game every 4-5 minutes for a line change. As for Edwards, there may have been a good chunk of money involved in that head scratching signing to leave the Pacific northwest for (gulp) Tennessee.

Very interesting.... Can this really be a reason that a five-star H.S.
player chooses one school over another? How times have changed!

Not necessarily because of what shoes are involved. But because of what influence that Parker, a representative of Adidas, might have with Smith who seems to consider Parker some kind of mentor. Technically as a graduate/alumni of Tennessee, Parker should not be discussing anything involved with recruiting with Smith because she is considered a booster of the school due to her alumni status. But of course that's a murky area/rule that's probably violated often throughout all college sports.

seems to be a conflict of interest for Parker to be steering athletes to Tennessee with Adidas. But what do I know??

There's mainly nothing illegal about the negotiations of shoe deals with the athletes now, that was fine. Google Sonny Vaccaro, he was kind of the Godfather of shoe company reps before NIL came into being. But as I said, it's beyond a conflict of interest for her to discuss anything related to Tennessee and recruiting with any kid. It's a clear violation of NCAA rules.

Candace is paying Kaleena Addidas money. She may not steer her to Knoxville, but you can't convince me that the car is facing toward Storrs. However, what a baller move that would be, taking Candace's money and coming to CT anyway, lol. Perhaps, I am jaded, I just can't see it.

I'm watching the Tennessee game and the ESPN announcers were reviewing 2026 commits and said they also got a commitment from Kaleena Smith 😯

Clearly there hasn't been anything announced, and she's currently doing unofficial visits, so I'm not sure if this was a mistake, something Carolyn Peck shouldn't have said or what

I heard her say that too, and after the game looked several places and on twitter and didn't see anything so I don't know what to make of it. Not a big fan of Peck's announcing, and I see her all the time covering the Las Vegas Aces. If she spilled the beans early before it was public, or worse was totally wrong, this would be pretty embarrassing for her.

Kaleena is currently at Southern Cal for an unofficial (and UCLA in a few days), so that’d be awkward if it were the case.

If she is visiting the two LA schools to experience the game day environments, I hope she pays attention to fan support. The attendance for both against ranked teams so far has been horrible.

Last night’s UNC v UCLA attendance was only about 1,500.

That games was actually played in Las Vegas at the Aces home court. They have a tournament going on there.

Your point is probably true, just not to the extend the attendance at that game suggests. Relative to the recent success of the programs, the west coast schools don't seem to have gotten on board for women's basketball as much as other parts of the country, but I think that is starting to change with the elevation of the LA market with USC and UCLA. Stanford used to be the only really top program in the west on a consistent basis.

I suspect USC would be a better choice for her than UCLA. And definitely better than Tennessee. Her virtues will get lost on a pressing team. She should just watch what happens to the Pauldo twins this season to see how it would play out. Of course, UConn would also suit her better than either UCLA or Tennessee. But I’m not confident it’s the best place for her.

ESPN's first high school team rankings.

Ontario Christian is ranked first, led by point guard Kaleena Smith (Jr). Olivia Vukosa's team, Christ the King, is also in the rankings, coming in at number 24. The teams in this ranking are pretty much the same as usual, with one exception: St. James Academy. The teams in this ranking usually have very competitive schedules and participate in at least one of the most high-profile events.
