Great for the ACC also...the next few years will feature a strong competition among Tech, Duke, N.C, and Maryland. Seems more interesting than UConn & all our dwarves.

Any commitment that hurts the SEC and helps the ACC is ok in my book. :D

I think UVA will be a factor as well ...... a top 6 ACC squad.... maybe not top 3-4.... but definitely top 6.

I know we've all pounced on it, but the only match for Breanna in the game right now is Griner. There is not another player that I can think of that has a wingspan that is over 7 feet.

DAWS: Yo.....Winlots plus step ladder! See earlier posts and quit dissin me.....Signed: Winlots ;)

I can't post anything directly from the Summitt...Because it's a pay board now, Maria and co. have really cracked down on leaking any info. Just don't want to alienate anyone there. Rest assured though, we are not optimistic.
How sad that a message board has become so restrictive that its members are fearful to speak their mind and share information with other fan bases. I guess in the LadyVol world, freedom of speech is not a constitutional right. The height of elitism. So very glad that the Boneyard is open to fans of all teams who are free to voice criticisms of the coach, players, media, fans, as long as it isn't malicious or harmful speculation. I am feeling sympathy for Tennessee fans...who knew? It is GREAT to be a UConn fan!

Perhaps her parents are concerned for her safety. Wall St 24/7 released their 2012 list of the 10 most dangerous states. Tennessee was #1, up from #3 last year.
Well, if that is a concern, Tech would not be a good choice. Have you ever been to the Tech campus? When you are on campus, it is easy to forget that just one street separated from one the worst neighborhoods for crime in Atlanta, one that has a heavy base of rentals occupied by Tech students. Armed robberies on campus don't happen. But go a block or two off campus to the north or south, it is frighteningly common place. And why not? Students carrying laptops and iPhones, unarmed, walking back to their apartments late at night? Easy pickens. In fairness, this might be true of other campuses in other large cities. I don't know. But I get enough emails from Georgia Tech informing parents of the latest safety and security measures to know that if it is safety you are looking for, you are better off going to a small, rural private college.

I'm no expert, but it seems to me that the free VolNation http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-lady-vols/ is now the go-to board judging by activity. VolNation had almost no traffic before the Summitt went pay. Is it possible that the Summitt will just fade away over time?

You never know - maybe the Summitt's fees will escalate to $100,000/ year per poster and it will turn a profit! ;)

Also, lets be honest can anyone really beat Baylor this year without Griner getting hurt?

I'll concede 2012. But they will go down on February 18, 2013.

Do you not consider Stricklen and Johnson to be star players? Add in Baugh, even though she was often injured and couldn't be relied upon consistently, I'd say going #2 and 4 in the draft is a pretty good indication of the talent level of those 2 players.

Tenn fans may believe that Massengale and Burdick and Graves are future "stars", but if you don't believe Stricklen and Johnson were, then I don't see how you can think any of those 3 are.

So by some definitions of "stars", Tennessee now has one - Russell. Not enough to win a NC obviously, especially when UCONN has so many more. So a ton depends on the 2014 class. Does Tennessee back up Russell with Turner and Wilson and one of the top PG's in the class (Caldwell or Canada or Mitchell)? It remains to be seen...

Final thought - not every kid wants to play for the best or play in front of the kind of bright lights that exist at Tennessee and UCONN. Diamond and Kaela chose to take a chance. Della Donne chose Delaware over UCONN. It seems like more and more kids are opting for programs NOT named UCONN, Tennessee, Duke or Stanford.
The reality is that there are more good players, more good coaches, and more schools that see investing resources in woman's basketball as a positive (probably because they see how a strong program can effect a school). Some kids want to make there own name, be the star, find a school w/ their major (a woman's pro basketball career isn't generally lucrative). The Key for the Uconn's and TN is to target the kids that want to play in that situation. By the way Diamond chose one of the longer standing elite teams (Yes, a title in the 90's, and lots of great players for many years = elite) Many people thought she chose their "STYLE " of basketball over the way Uconn or TN plays.
