It’s January 3rd and the evidence doesn’t necessarily support the conclusion, but I’m of the opinion that Demary and Smith are the perfect combination to lead us to where we need to be at the PG position.

Demary is a reliable PG who can distribute and defend at a high level for 25-30 minutes per game. Smith is a high-energy guy off the bench who can penetrate and distribute at a high level for the remaining minutes. If Demary gets into foul trouble, we’ll be fine with Smith running the point.

We have plenty of scoring options at the other positions on the court so scoring from the PG position would be an added bonus.

Please feel free to agree or disagree. Happy New Year!

Demary reminds me of an early version of Tristan Newton. Because he's not scoring a lot you think he's not playing well but you look up and he's got like 8 pts, 7 assists, a couple of steals and you say hey not bad. Both are a work in progress. Smith seems to have a tendency to dribble too much but eventually becomes effective. I think you're right in that we could a lot worse. Looking forward to seeing them grow.

Demary has the tools. Hurley will get him going. Smith just scares me because PGs that can’t make free throws can’t be on the floor at crunch time.

I think Smith will work himself out of it with the help of going to the line in some low pressure BE games. He’s still shooting over 70% for his career, a 20% drop for the entirety of this season would be inexplicable.

I think there are still 3-4 players who are going to really benefit from a softer BE schedule this year. Have we really put together a complete game with everyone firing on all cylinders yet? With the best coaching staff in the country -the time will be well spent during BE play and you have to believe we are going to be hitting our stride come March.
It really could work in our favor.

Ive often felt the same way about the BE. I still do actually. It didn't produce a lot of bids during the two most recent rings but the tougher officiating and the type of play is enough to sharpen the team up come march.
and usually without the extra bad losses a better league may hand us in the regular season

Smith is very Jekyll and Hyde. Last game, he looked like a completely different player from 1st to 2nd half. Need more consistency at the PG spot.

Silas is really coming along well IMO.

At UGA he had 5+* assists three times as a freshman (5, 6, 7) and four times as a sophomore (7, 5, 5, 6).

In 14 games for UConn so far he has hit 5+ assists 9 times (7, 9, 7, 10, 5, 5, 11, 8, 7).

He is 10 assists away (at 82) from his freshman total of 92 and 21 away from his sophomore total of 103.

He has done this while keeping his TOs at his career average.

He is not perfect but really the only flaw he is showing right now is his 3PT shooting, which looks more an issue of hesitation than bad form on his shot. I would also love for his FTR to increase but it is the BE.

*I used 5+ because to be in the top 50 in the country in assists this year a player has to average 5.4 assists per game this year (5.1 last year and 5.0 two years ago) and I rounded down to highlight the point that only 7 of his 70 games at UGA even had him close to a top 50 assist man's average. Now he sits at 31 in the nation and climbing.

Whether they are the perfect PGs or not doesn't matter. They are the ones we have. It is reasonable to assume they will improve over the course of the season and be better in March then they are today. And they are pretty good today.

I'm guessing you wont find anyone but Smith nationwide with 9 assists off the bench in 3 different games this season. Point guard isn't a concern.

McDonalds AA game and Braylon is locked in already … Reibe lost the jump ball but this was a sign of good times ahead
