I was heading to my gate at Bradley and coming the other way was Kelly Faris. Without thinking I said hi Kelly and she stopped and we talked for a few minutes. Of course I told her how much I enjoyed watching her and her UConn teams. She is optimistic about the current team and will be going to the game Monday night. She looked great and was as friendly as could be. My wife couldn’t quite understand how excited I was to have had this little exchange with Kelly but many of you probably can. It’s amazing how many fine woman have come through the UConn program.

Great post. I totally get your comment about your wife - and you are right, most fans on the BY are pretty rabid so we TOTALLY get how excited you were/are.

I had the pleasure of meeting Geno and sitting with him for close to 2 hours when he was in San Diego watching Charde Houston play. My brother was there and we asked him ALL kinds of questions.

He absolutely could not have been more gracious - he literally sat with us the entire game (never moving away to pay more attention to Charde's game, or just to get away from us). We tried to be super respectful - not peppering him with too many questions, but he never flinched.

I still remember it like it was yesterday. The nuggets he dropped were awesome. And his commentary on Charde's play was priceless. One nugget "Oh yeah, she just looked over to see if I was paying attention. Now watch - she will try to do something amazing with the ball". Geno=Nostradamus. Charde got the ball, drove the length of the court, did a spin move, stopped on a dime, spun the other way and layed the ball up. Then she looked over at Geno again to see if he was still watching, and he said to us, "See? I told you!"...

Did she say what she is doing these days professionally, and whether it has anything to do with basketball?

I had a similar experience at LAX with Katie Lou Samuelson. Well, honestly, until I was wrestled to the floor by Airport Security and OC Sheriff's Department officers
(surprisingly, tasing isn't all that unpleasant)
the conversation was very nice. Really, it was. I may have been a little over the top with the bellowing "LOOOOUUUUU", but I still think the restraining order was unnecessary and excessive. It also lead to an ugly separation from my wife of 18 years with onerous visitation stipulations with the little Two Sheds, but like you, I still think KLS is a fine and amazing citizen and a great representative of the UCONN family.

Great stories both, and thanks for sharing. Great to hear Geno and the UConn players are as friendly and unassuming in person as they seem to be from TV interviews, etc. Getting beers with Geno is definitely a bucket list item if ever there was one!

When UConn was in Reno for Gabby's homecoming game I was walking through passage way between the Silver Legacy and Eldorado casinos and Shea was walking in the opposite direction. I said hi and noticed that she was wearing a knee brace. I asked if something happened to her knee again and she stated that it was just a precaution that she takes. I informed her that I was die hard UConn fan who drove up from Vegas to see KLS and the Huskies and she stated that Lou would most likely not be playing, but was getting close to being able to play again. She always had a smile on her face and was very cordial, I thanked for taking the time to talk to me and wished her and the team good luck.

Looking up some info on Kelly it appears she last played for an Icelandic team in January 2019. She mentioned something about injuries and hoping to get back to playing.

BANTAM: Kelly one of my favs. And you as well. Very nice exchange for each of you. Plus you have time to bring your wife up to UCONN speed, eh?
Thank you winlots although I’m not sure what I‘ve done to earn such praise. I very much enjoy your posts as well. I’ve been trying to bring my wife up to speed since I became a big fan in 1995. I haven’t given up hope yet. At least she did go with me to the game against Oregon in Bridgeport a few years back.

Make it a fine Italian wine and you'll improve your odds.

As a CT Sun season ticket member, I have had the chance to interact with a number of players at various events. My observation has been that the friendly and gracious ones FAR outnumber the two or three others who were less than welcoming. There's a bunch of very admirable young women playing this game at all levels.

My wife wouldn't. She's heard me gush about Kelly for many years.

I met Mia Hamm at Dulles Airport many years ago and got her autograph on my newborn daughter's picture. I'd hoped it would be good mojo to get my daughter into sports, but alas, didn't happen.

I was a volunteer coach at a boys and girls club. We were invited to watch Jen Rizzottis Hartford team and play a game after against a Newtown travel team. My team were 7th graders except 1 6th grader who started for me. They met Coach Rizzotti and she autographed their warm up tops for them! My girls were so excited to meet her and watch Jens team win! While my team was warming up. A group of 4 tall young women dressed in Connecticut sweatsuits walked up to me and we started talking. It was Shea, Tamika, Aisha and Paige who came to watch Jens team play. I was able to look Shea in her eyes but the other 3 w were taller than me. My kids ran over and surrounded them and just bombarded them with questions and signing their markups! It was like Christmas morning when your kids first see the presents under the tree! They spent 15 minutes with each team that day! I will never forget what those 4 young women did that day! Also Coach Rizzotti allowing us to play on her court!
