2026 Recruiting: Junior County

Yeah I'm not sure if I agree with this. County and Landrew are nice players but neither are at the level of Mingo....who is at the Steph/Liam/Braylon level of recruit. We absolutely should still be going after Mingo even if we get both of these guys.
Big question is simply do we need him for next year, especially if he considers himself OAD. Do we want to lock that expectation in early when there is a season to play out and a portal to entertain.

Demary
Solo
Furphy/Ross
Stewart
Reibe

Now you have County rotating into the backcourt. I'd argue that we're better off seeing who steps up, who goes draft and staying flexible with the portal being the better option. What we do need is a backup 4 - could see that as a freshmen. Cloer was really the kid we wanted.

High ranked frosh are like shiny objects, especially in that gap when things are quiet just before the season starts.

This is very similar to last year with Adams and Mullins.

We will still take Mingo but we like County a lot and don’t want to wait on Mingo. If Mingo comes, great, but I’m told the visit with County went really well both sides feel very comfortable. The staff is very honest with all recruits and that is the case here.

I don’t think that’s a chip contending team at the 3,4,5 spots. why would we prefer having Furphy or Ross starting in the wing when we could have the next steph castle with Mingo? County fills the Smith role off the bench there’s no issue there.
You don't think a McD AA sophomore 5, a senior 4 and some combo of senior Ross or 2nd year Furphy has that potential? To go with seniors at the 1/2? You'd rather have a freshmen in a bad class? Maybe we can upgrade at the 3, but then we probably aren't keeping Furphy/Ross and it won't be with a freshmen, it'll be portal.

I think you're way overstating this narrative of a bad class for one thing. I also think it's a pretty big stretch to be assuming Ross or Furphy go from non rotation players to a starter on a championship contender

I don’t think that’s a chip contending starting lineup but Add Mingo and it’s the best three G lineup in the country. County fills the Smith role off the bench there’s no issue there.
Can’t really say that until we see Furphy reibe and Demary play for us.

Mingo is still rated .9982 which would have been #5 recruit last year in a strong class so yes I’d prefer him. The rankings are relative to the class but the player ratings are not so you can compare prospects across years.

I’m not sure Smith and County are comparable though. Smith is a pass first small PG with wiggle, County is bigger and a connector more so than a creator. If Silas leaves we will need someone to step in at PG.

I’m assuming Silas is back if not staff needs a starting PG out of the portal, OR why not Mingo as our starting PG?? He would start for us at the 1 or 2 or as the 3rd G. Fills whatever hole we might have.

I agree that doesn't look like a national championship starting 5 but I don't see County filling the Smith role. Smith is going to be huge for this team, he's a pure point and the best passer on the team, he's going to play a ton. County is a development piece and not a pure point.

I think the staff sees Mingo as more of a secondary facilitator a la Castle. County can back up multiple roles, and I would assume we would go for a pure point in the portal. Obviously that is all moot if Demary stays.

I meant more in terms of his spot in the 9 man rotation not necessarily his role. If we get Mingo then we don’t really need a pure backup PG like Smith because either Silas or Mingo will be on the floor at all times. Furphy can also handle the ball. Add county and we have 4 ball handlers.

Demary / County
Ball / Furphy
Mingo / Ross
Stew / Keita
Reibe / Keita

Mingo doesn't crack the top 20 last year. Those scorings are very much relative to class. Last years class was loaded, this years class is super weak.

No they aren’t that’s why they can list a schools top recruits all time, it’s based on player rating it’s not skewed by the class they were in

Would not jive with any of the feedback I heard from all the Field of 68 team who attended the peach jam nor Finkelstein. That was beyond Stokes, who would be at best 5-7 in this past year's class, there is very little high end talent in the 2026 class. Mingo is generally seen about 5-6 in this class. You can do that math. Is Dylan Mingo, a 23% 3pt shooter, a better prospect than kids like Mullins or Cayden Boozer?

247 thinks so, obviously very high on him but you are welcome to disagree of course.

Ironically, Finkelstein is Director of Scouting at 247. He's been on the record as saying no Blue Blood could build a roster, like Duke did, with OAD freshmen. Class quality is that down.

lol, do not argue with Ruff, he is always right or at least thinks so.

he does read a lot of crap though so you will need info to back it up
If I don’t bring some facts to back it up, feel free to slap me upside the head.

I’m psyched to have Junior on board if that’s the case. A husky is a husky and we as fans work from there.

BTW, I know I’ve not been to the US in about a decade but calling “championships” “chips” seems insane to me. I look forward to dream of championships and to Junior County if indeed this is true!

Pet peeve, it's jibe, not jive.
