Jovana Popovic is a Husky!

The rosters are out for today's game, and Jovana is on it. There were 16 players training for Serbia, but since only 12 are on the roster, I assume she will be in uniform. FIBA regulations do not allow more than 12 players to be in uniform. The game starts at 1:00 PM Eastern Time and is supposed to be broadcast by FIBA via its YouTube channel.

The team roster is now confirmed for today's game, which starts at 1:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time. Here is the translation of the Instagram post. The game is taking place in Serbia, and for its second game on March 14, the team will travel to Portugal.

The head coach of the senior women's national team of Serbia, Milos Pavlovic, has named 12 players for the game against Iceland in Novi Sad on Wednesday, the 11th. March at 6:00 PM in the small hall of the SPЦ Vojvodina, as part of the second FIBA qualifying window for the 2027 European Championship.

Admission to the game is free, with tickets available for pickup at the SPЦ Војводина box office, all as part of Women's Basketball Month in Serbia.

Serbia 92 Iceland 66 Jovana Played 17:04 minutes
If you watch the replay, she is # 28 in white. When she first goes
into the game Jovana has a LONG ponytail and later
she puts her hair up in a bun.
Stats: 8 points, Field goals 2/3, 0/0 on 2 pointers, 2/2 on
three pointers, 2/2 free throws with 2 rebounds, 0 assists,
1 T.O., no steals, no blocks, with a plus/minus score of +14 and an
efficiency score of 8. Next game is Saturday, March 11 at
3 PM (our time), against Portugal.

Serbia will wrap up its second window of the first round against Portugal. The team is in Group G, the only group with just three teams, and following its latest victory over Iceland, it has already qualified for the second round of qualifying for EuroBasket 2027. The two qualifying windows will take place in November 2026, with the final one in February 2027.

Tomorrow’s game, which was initially scheduled for the afternoon in Portugal, has been moved to the evening. This means the game will tip off at 3:00 PM Eastern Time.

SERBIA 71 Portugal 58 Serbia "qualifies" for the next round.
Jovana Popovic #28 played 11:16 seconds, two points on

Mega Mis (79) - Novosadska (81) OT
Jovana--> 41:16 - 32 PTS - FG 11/22 (5/12 3 PT) - FT 5/5 - 6 AST - 7 REB - 1 ST - 3 TO.
A tough loss for Mega Mis; the team is currently in third place alongside Student, which has the same record. Both teams will finish their regular season next Saturday. If Mega Mis wants to hold onto third place, it will have to defeat Crvena, a team that has yet to suffer a loss this year and has been undefeated during the 2024-2025 season. In their final game, Student will face the 12th and last-place team, Spartak. The top four teams will advance to the playoffs. The semifinals will be a best-of-three series, and the final will be a best-of-five series.

Jovana's final regular-season game, held on March 28, ended in a crushing 126-81 defeat. Mega Mis thus finishes in 4th place and will face Crvena, the team that finished in first place. In their first matchup, Crvena won 101-81. The dates for the first two games are April 2 and 5.

For Jovana in the last game: 32:56 - 28 PTS - FG 11/22 (5/9 3PT) - FT 1/2 - 6 AST - 5 REB - 3 TO.

Attached are her regular-season stats as well as an Instagram post showing that, like Blanca in Italy, she is also playing with the junior team.

Jovana --> 29:16 - FG 6/8 (2/3 3-pointers) - FT 7/7 - 4 REB - 2 ST.
The next game will take place on April 5; it could be the last, as Jovana's team faces elimination.

I think I’m going to really like this kid. She knows what she’s doing, attacks under control, and sees the whole floor. And she can really shoot.

I wonder which is the shortest distance from Serbia to Portland, going east or going west. I'm guessing going west from Serbia. Russia is pretty big.

It's worthwhile clicking on the attached article.... a lot to learn about Jovana!

Olivia is hosting the show, and toward the end of the episode, she introduces us to Jovana. She tries her best to get her to speak, but Jovana is still too shy
This gave me some pause about Jovana’s English skills. I hope she can navigate an educational environment that operates primarily in English. Part of being happy on the court involves not feeling overwhelmed in classes and on campus.

I have very high hopes for Jovana. But it struck me that I haven’t seen any interviews in which she speaks in English.

@Bone Dog, that's an incredibly cynical and unwarranted viewpoint regarding a player who has yet to step on campus. I spent many years teaching at a top R1 Research institution and saw countless students from other countries quickly adapt to American university life and thrive while maintaining their own cultural identities. Why question her ability to adapt and acculturate to UCONN based on a limited set of video clips?

Cynical? I expressed my hope that she can succeed. Hope is the opposite of cynicism. I also have spent several decades teaching at a couple of R1 institutions and have seen up close the struggles of kids whose English skills aren’t up to the task. I’m sure you have too. It would be truly cynical to pretend such struggles don’t happen or aren’t real. And when these kids succeed, it is wonderful and inspiring. I certainly hope that’s the experience Jovana has, that her skills are already good enough.

So, have you heard her speak?

I can't help visualizing Olivia and KK together: two wacky bundles of energy and mischief.
KK and "THE BIG O" = This is already an interesting year. Olivia should
give the UCONN world weekly video updates with Jovana ("the care and development of a baby Husky"). I can't wait for an appropriate nickname for Jovana!
Loved the hug of Olivia by the newest HUSKIE!!!

As long as she speaks "basketball" .... a universal language. Like Blanca
taking Spanish courses.... Does UCONN have any independent courses for
Jovana in Serbian??
