Josh Carlton our go-to guy appreciation thread

Been waiting for a Carlton post after that game today. People are tough on him, but I think the majority of them forget that Carlton is only a sophomore. Get some solid depth behind him for the next couple of years and we'll be good.

I'm tough on him. And I think he's definitely limited in his upside due to inherent deficiency's not of his own making. I do give him slack in that he was forced into a role 2 years before he was ready. In fact, in a perfect world, he red shirts his freshman year. He's also been hampered by very little competition to work against in practice.

That said, he had a great game today. Really liked his aggressiveness and activeness in there, something that's been inconsistent for him throughout the year. If he can harness that, it will go a long way towards masking some of those deficiencies.

But he will hopefully never be our go-to guy. If he can become a Gavin Edwards of sorts, I will be suitably impressed.

Need him to do some screen work with Voskhul, because that's an area he could really help the team.

Something I never understood with my fellow boneyarders. Why so much love for Gavin Edwards?

Stats since the SMU game (13 total games)

10.7 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 2.1 bpg.

Looking back, who was the last center we've had who put up those per-game numbers? Hasheem Thabeet, 10 years ago when he averaged 13.6/10.8/4.2.

Yes, it's quite a bit of extrapolation, but still a testament to how much he's improved over the 2nd half of the season.

I wouldn't call that love. Just that's what kind of impact I'm hoping for Josh. Good role player. 11/7 and 2blks per his senior year. I'll take that.

Some guys get an inordinate amount of love. Fan favorites, what have you. Giffey gets star player love in some threads.

Only comparable one I can think of is Alex Oriakhi putting up 9.6/8.7/1.3 in 2011. But this probably speaks more to our absolute black hole of centers since that time.

Not too shabby for Josh. Not the greatest competition in the world, but as one of his detractors, I'm impressed with his improvement.

If he can make a leap this summer (strength/skill), he might be a good role player.

Wait a minute...I thought it was CV?

CV has become Uconn's go-to guy by far.

Yeah he rebounded from a few average to below ones to be the main focus of the offense and big rebounder off the glass yesterday. With him and Gilbert we have two guys who should be starting next year.

It is never easy for big guys. He got a weak over the back call today while rebounding and this is normal ref behavior. Josh has show much improvement this year. Next year he has to continue get better as well but more importantly not be AWOL as often. He made some quicker moves today on offense so he has been putting in the work. Give him a good 4 and things should really improve. Now it is Josh and 4 guards basically with our lineup.

Ok. Role player at best. Also a big contributor to our academic issues if I remember correctly

Hurley loves Josh. Mentioned it was one of the reasons he took the job. I mean Hurley flips houses like...oh never mind!

I hope we only need 11/7/2 from Josh. I think he’ll be a double double guy for sure as a senior. Very impressive year for him.

He led the team in assists today. Wild. Only 3 but he went months earlier this season without that many assists total.

With two more years of muscle and experience I think he can be a force as a senior.

Josh had a pretty good game. Played big with the ball at the rim. Altered and blocked some shots and rebounded. I like Josh plays within himself most if the time. Looks like Hurley and staff are working with Josh and have his attention. Get some power in our power forward and we could do some damage down low.

He would have had a great game if he didn't turn the ball over so much. But he'll get better at that.
