There’s an article on the Dallas Wings website indicating that Jose was recently in Storrs for 3 days, watching practice, having dinner with his golfing buddy and talking to Geno at length about how best to use Paige and the possibility of drafting Azzi to pair up with Paige in Dallas.

I had felt that Awa Fam was the pick. But if Dallas is not going after a Big in the draft, perhaps signing a free agent instead, so far, Azzi has looked like the best guard in the nation who’ll be draft eligible in 2026.

Stay tuned.

I'm not entirely convinced that Dallas needs another big, unless they lose Yueru because of the new CBA, however it turns out. I realize Yueru is not especially mobile. But she is big and she has a soft touch from the elbow in. Also, she seems pretty bonded to Paige.

Speaking off Azzi, does anyone know what UConn's record is when Azzi scores at least 20 points in a game? I can't think of a time they've been beaten in that scenario but I'd love the input. Thx.

I think Yueru has the ability to be a capable backup center in the W. But I don’t think you win a championship with Yueru as your starting center.

Maybe Jose is interested in Geno's use of small ball to make it work in the W, and get Serah in the 2nd round or late 1st round with a trade?!?

Jose obviously knows the use of "W ready" talent from UConn. I'm just wondering where Caroline will be going to get Assistant Coaching experience - possibly Dallas (Wings)?!? or Grad Asst @: Princeton?!? Duke (for Olympics/USA team)?!?

Go Huskies!!!

According to Sports Reference, 18-1, with the only loss coming against Villanova 2/9/22. No Paige that season: Connecticut lost 72-69 with only six players playing.

Villanova loss

The front office of Dallas will have many options this off season. They could mess around an add multiple picks in the first round, which would be even better for them going forward. We shall see. But if they add Azzi, that is not a bad move either. A lot will just depend on how the rest of the players are doing this off season.

I love Yueru, but I'm afraid she will not be protected in the expansion draft, probably protecting the German girl Louisa S. I won't complain about that as she is a very good player, but as far as the college draft, their pick will depend on who they can get during free agency. If they can get a really good Big, then I think Azzi will be headed to Dallas. Fam may have a huge upside, but she will take some time to get aquatinted to the W. Just stay away from Betts, as her lack of mobility will not serve her well in the pros.

I'm coming around to Azzi as the first pick for Dallas. I'm assuming here (dangerous for sure) that the trend will be more toward open floor play, especially if the refs start actually calling the game the way it should be called. We're obviously all biased towards a rapid ball-movement game, and that's where the small-ball works well. Of course, if the W doesn't start calling the game more tightly, then it'll be the same dismal slog of borderline professional wrestling. The new CBA will be telling...

Looking at it as strictly a Wings fan, I think another Big would be a better bet. OR, they draft Azzi and trade Arike? Honestly, not sure how this plays out. I imagine it’s keeping Jose up at night…..

Like Geno said yesterday, it’s about scoring the ball. He won a Natty with Jana starting at center. Azzi is the most explosive shooter in the women’s game. When Steph Curry retires she’ll own basketball. Dallas can find some bigs if need be.
Was anyone afraid that Azzi would not get her looks when Paige graduated. Well, she gets anything she wants. I’m just waiting for her to totally go off. She could have easily scored 40 against Iowa. One-of-a-kind.
