Came across the following item in the San Diego Union-Tribune, Tuesday:

Dogging it
The Siberian Husky that serves as the mascot for the University of Connecticut is taking on another role: assistant ring bearer for two university alumni.

Jonathan XIV was part of the wedding party for Daniel and Holly Bronko last month as they tied the knot in Simsbury, Conn. He had the ring box on his collar as he walked up the aisle.

Jonathan also was involved when Daniel, 24, surprised Holly, 28, with a proposal last year. The engagement video became a social media sensation.

Nice to see that Jonathan's celebrity extends to the West Coast.

When I was at UConn, Jonathan was all white, rare for a husky.[/QUOTE

Yes, the Jonathan of the 60's was a huge white dog.

When my father was at Uconn in the 30's, his frat house took care of Jonathan

Think it was a Samoyed. Close enough...
Sigh, this myth was started as a support for the blue dog change of mascot. It isn't accurate.

This is a white Husky.

Since the first Jonathan, all of mascots have been white huskies, until the most recent. No other team had a white husky as mascot, several have huskies. It was a branding mistake to move from the unique to the generic, in my opinion.

This is a Samoyed

We have never had one for a mascot.
