I get the feeling we are going to see some old school Husky running this year. McCombs, Williams, Max, and Mariner along with some McCummings and the read option. Ground and Pound Husky style.

9 wins or bust.

He didn't get faster in the off season. P. just never figured out how to use him or his speed. What's worse, P. never even tried.

Pal,
I think P intimated that Williams had a habit of taking plays off last year(in practice) He seems to be a bit more positive about
the situation now. That probably improved with another year of maturity under the player's belt and hopefully we all can look forward to a bit more production from him.

I still don't get why mccombs can't get unseated through competition. Ltd like a foregone conclusion that he will be the primary back.

I don't think McCombs is a lock for anything, even though he's the incumbent. I think the kid is about as gutsy a football player as you'll see. The progress he made in his pass blocking the last two seasons is remarkable - by way of example. He's got tallent.

That all said, he cannot run through arm tackles and is not a break away threat with his speed. He's a buck-sixty LB ellusive back who can be effective, but, imho, has been miss-caste by this staff. We desperately need one or two other backs to step up so that we can get back to being a good running team.

If we don't run the ball better than we did last season we are staring right down the barrel of a 2-3 win season in 2013. We will have a much more inexperienced (and probably less talented) defense and if they are put on the field to the extent our defense was last season we are going to take some serious beatings. A good running game will also take some pressure off of an OL that really struggled last season as well.

I know I sound like a broken record, but GDL views himself as a mastermind. He tried to out scheme. All he needed to do last season is figure a way to be a fair to good running team and we win a lot of football games with that defense. Whitmer would have been just fine with a little more play action especially having two NFL caliber TEs in the mix. Instead we got the wildcat and assorted other BS.

Ultimately that's all on P..............

PP wouldn't know if a player was taking a play off unless he was sitting next to him on the bench. His OC took the season off and was still his guy, that's how observant he is.

Here is my thing. What our offense has needed for years is home run hitters. We have had a handful. Brown, Easly, and Rudman come to mind. If Joe Williams is that, I'd like him to,be featured more. McCombs is not really a threat in that regard.

I love how you say things as if you know them when there is clearly no way you actually could. It takes a special kind of person to go through life just assuming you're right all time regardless of lack of evidence.

Well, since it is known that JW is very fast and it is known that he didn't play much, Pal is correct.

A different question is whether PP had an obligation to play JW if PP wasn't satisfied with JW's practice habits or confident in his ability to play in a game.
