Under current rules - if they are not changed - UConn cannot host a Regional. You can't be at an arena where you are the host.

Of course, that doesn't apply to the sub-regional.

If they go that route, they either have to pick locations not associated with a school, or reconsider the rule. My guess is that they would try to choose non-school locations.

I'd love for us to be in Springfield for a regional and not host the opening rounds. Those games tend to be lousy, and attendance is cannibalized by nearby regionals.

I already did 2 months ago. Things seem to have been altered by the Rutgers events. It was expected that the B1G would add two more teams by the end of the school year. Suddenly the news went silent from a source that had been pretty accurate to that point from within State College.

These predictions are a dime a dozen. I'm not sure any of them have _ever_ been right regarding conference realignment. And everyone seems to forget that certain conferences/schools have an interest in strongly floating rumors.

UConn has no chance at the Big10 until it gets AAU status, which is several years away at earliest.

The person I am talking about had both the MD and Rutgers moves 6 weeks before they happened. He seems to have a direct line into the offices in Chicago. He was all over the Nebraska move when it occurred.

The AAU status issue fell apart when Nebraska lost its cert. the issue for UCONN is the stadium size. The move that B1G was expected to make was a move on Georgia Tech and UNC.

That is exactly what I have said.

I think it is important to separate the two different expansions. They were made for two reasons. Inviting Nebraska was driven primarily by the desire to obtain another powerful football program and get the conference to 12 teams so that they could finally hold a conference championship football game, and gain all of the ticket and TV revenue that would come along with it. It was a pretty traditional conference expansion.

The Maryland and Rutgers expansion on the other hand was driven almost entirely by the desire to get the Big Ten network into new large markets. They cared far more about the TV markets the schools were in because they want to make money off of every cable subscriber in the NY and D.C. media markets. This kind of expansion is only attractive for conferences with their own TV network. UConn wasn't as valuable to the ACC as a media market because they did not have their own channel. Exposure would have been nice, but there wouldn't be the additional revenue generated from getting a cable channel into new markets. If the Big 10 does knock on UConn's door it will be because they believe it will be enough leverage to get additional cable companies to buy the Big Ten Network.

However, they are only interested in expansion towards the east coast and its markets, although they are more concerned about media expansion than league expansion if it is possible.

The article also said that UConn would not be considered without the AAU status, although it wasn't clear if that was the opinion of the writer or the B1G sources.
