This team is a late bloomer and it now knows what is expected and what it takes to win tight games.....The new UCONN team is just starting to make its own road to Denver........Game On!!

I like our momentum too. Let's keep it going.

Geno was spoiled for 4 years. Maybe the kid from Collins Hill had something to do with it. :)

“I’ve doubted whether they believed in themselves all year. We’d go to practice and they’d give up, would lead to 30 minutes of atrocious practice. I’d see that over and over. I began to think, ‘well, maybe they don’t have it. Maybe they can’t sustain it. Maybe they just can’t keep it together and when things get hard they are looking for someone to come in on a white horse and save them.
“The last thing you want to have is expectations for kids they just can’t meet. That’s when they get really frustrated.” (Geno)
“What feels best is that our team is headed in the right direction,” Bria Hartley said. “Getting redemption against teams that we’d already lost to [Notre Dame and St. John’s] is good for us. It shows we have a lot of fight and that we’re capable of performing when we need to.” (Bria)
________________________________________________
Two fascinating statements the one by Geno with important insights into his psyche and methodology of coaching.
I don't think he ever specifically mentioned that the team gave up in practice; that's new to my ears or that he questioned if his expectations had to be toned down to save the team, in a sense by not putting an impossible burden on them...really fascinating, a real insight into the issues he faced this season.

As well, I am a little concerned about Bria's last three words..."when we need to." Hopefully, just an just an unfortunate figure of speech, but just as likely a deeper insight into the kind of sloughing off that got us into trouble with St. Johns, for example, in the first place.
DD: Please don't take offense, I really love that kid!

IMO, you might be reading too much into it. I read "when we need to" to mean in tight games or in closing out games. That had been a point of emphasis for the team heading into the BEast tourney.

You mean he looked at the quote in a negative fashion?

I like Bria Hartley's reference to getting redemption.... Earlier last week I labeled Tuesday night "Redemption Tuesday"...and I said after borrowing a phrase from prior Husky Tamika Williams that winning the NCAA championship would be pure "Jubilation"

All 4 number 1 seeds will be bursting some bubbles very soon. Still the odds are that all 4 will not make it to the final gun down. Come Monday night we can start figuring the odds in earnest and, no matter how hard we figure and ruminate about it, most of us will be wrong. But all across America our illegal, against corporate policy betting pools shall clandestinely flourish ( mine is run by the HR manager!) with a wink from the smart manangers of corporate America, who understand that productivity comes from :) people. At least that's my defense if I get busted! :p

Earlier last week? Harumph!!!!!

I posted this on Feb. 29 - "I'm just going by what my huskie blue colored glasses tell me. I'm not convinced. I'm looking for a BE tournament revenge tour for UConn, beating St. Johns and then Notre Dame."

Revenge - Redemption.....close enough...lol!!

Revenge focuses exclusively on the opponent, redemption focuses on one's personal state and setting one's house right.

Thank you, Professor Webster!
Not Webster and didn't consult him. I was just thinking spiritually. Jews and Christians alike find in the scriptures that vengeance and therefore revenge is to be left to the Divine and that people are to focus more on setting their own houses right. Encouraging acts of revenge in athletics is no healthier an attitdue than in life more broudly. Overcoming failure, setbacks and obstacles is in contrast a positive.

Just a further thought. Chase revenge an you focus on one team and find fulfillment in one win and fall short of the real goal. Seek redemption and set you own house right and you may well find yourself fulfilled in a championship.

Yeah, she was pretty good, but Tina covered only 3 of those 4 years. :D

I still think that opposing players who looked at the UConn huddle and saw Tina and Maya had to be thinking something along the lines of "Oh crap." They were a very physically intimidating duo.

Which allowed that sneaky kid on the perimeter to hit all those threes, unless she was flying to the basket for a layup.

Hmm, Renee-Maya-Tina........Bria-Kaleena-Breanna...

Field General Mongomery may have been small in stature, but the players certainly listened to her. A pretty fair player too: Two-time AA, Lieberman Award, Pomeroy Award.

Yeah, getting the #1 recruit in consecutive years worked out pretty well. Let's get that to 3 years and then 4 years. :D

Well, I only hae one thing to say about that.

Blah blah blah.....

I didn't need redemption. My house is fine and I will be fulfilled with our without a championship.

There is a difference in ME wanting revenge and the team wanting revenge.

I say revenge .....kill em!!!!

I was addressing the team, you are irrelevant to the games. Unless of course you are planning on suiting up. I assume you still have eligibility.
