John A.: Stokes has turned her game around

i love reading stuff like that. other players noting that "in practice it was like a switch went off for her" and how she doesn't want to dissapoint her teammates again. it seems to be a pretty fine line at times to try to teach kids, boost their confidence, but still get them to do more than they ever did before, especially since many, if not all of them, relied mostly on their natural skills to get by in high school.

That story has been widely reported for a while now, What is interesting to me is that Kiah is so willing to disclose it in public; a lot of girls wouldn't do that.
I still note moments of passivity in her game. If the coaches continue to beat it out of her, we haven't seen anything yet.

Stokes said she feels somewhat responsible for UConn's only two losses, at Baylor and Notre Dame. In those games, she played only 13 minutes, just one at Baylor. She had seven rebounds in 12 minutes in the overtime loss to the Fighting Irish, but she knows she could have done more.

That's taking ownership of the team. Awesome for a freshman.

I agree. And then acting on that with improved play shows great maturity. She has some excellent skills and if she now has added confidence and intensity, she should continue to improve and provide consistent play in the post.

Kiah is exhibit 1A in why I believe UConn is the most improved team in the country from the beginning of the year. And why I like our chances in April. Yes, I said APRIL.

UConn has lost two games. Both on the road. Both times they had large leads in the 2nd half. One game they lost in OT. To the #1 and #2 teams in the country. They also beat 5 top twentyfive teams by an average of 28 points.

I have always liked their chances in April...lol.

Seriously, me too. And I like those chances even more now with Kiah playing at this level. She is simply a great rebounder and defender.

I really like Stokes. She's really "upped" her game from the start of the year. She still has a ways to go offensively, it seems, but she is pretty much there defensively. And I am somewhat surprised at how athletic she is. She seems to be getting more and more comfortable and confident every time I watch. It'd be huge if she can keep that confidence entering into the postseason.

Uconn should have a beast of a front line next season adding Tuck and Stewart.

I love the new and improved Kiah; lets hope she continues to improve so that she can help UCONN reach the final four and possibly win NC#8.

I'm not wavering from my NC prediction many months ago.

Me, too, DD. I've always thought we would have a great chance in April.
