I asked Geno whether he ever lost faith that the Werth Center would be built. Remember, he waited 30 years for the ribbon to finally be cut.
This is what he said:
"I wasn't one of those people who was on pins and needles waiting for it to be built," Auriemma said. "When I got the UConn job [in 1985] they told me they were building a brand new facility to play basketball in [Gampel Pavilion]. Six years later we moved in. They didn't tell me that part, especially since I only had a five-year contract."
