But I would love to see her at UConn.”

“If she doesn’t go [to UConn], I would blame it on the distance. To me, that would be the only reason she would not go there. But knowing Vern, I would think the decision would come sooner than later because he’ll want to get her ready for whatever conference she will play.”

I find this encouraging. Yes, the distance is roughly 100 miles v. 400 miles, but one team is on TV every game. The other team is almost never on TV.

I believe that UConn still has an honors program, which may appeal to Natalie.

She can go to grad school at UVa. after her WNBA career.

She was about 130-140. But she was a top 15 college freshman. Her improvement was substantial and relatively recent.

Actually, it's against the rules. I don't know Natalie, but I know where her school is--about 25 miles from me. I think she has 2 good options. One is by far the better basketball option.

Now, this is not a joke: when a large group of fairly savvy guys were talking about potential college choices, the view of UVa went like this. "The frat boys down there study for an exam by seeing how far away they can get from a paper and still copy from it." That was long ago, and the perception might not have been fair or accurate, but that was, indeed, the perception. Whether the perception was right or wrong, I don't think we take any back seat to VA on academics......and I do know a fair amount about a fair amount of universities.

"The frat boys down there study for an exam by seeing how far away they can get from a paper and still copy from it." That was long ago, and the perception might not have been fair or accurate, but that was, indeed, the perception. Whether the perception was right or wrong, I don't think we take any back seat to VA on academics.and I do know a fair amount about a fair amount of universities.

Virginia is a very good school, and comes with a very highly regarded reputation. Again, reputations may or not be based in truth, but they are for the most part how employers see the landscape of candidates short of them researching every single school and every single program offered and trying to figure out how they stack up relative to each other which is just not possible or realistic.

It is still that way with a tremendous amount of legacy C students. Still known as a party school as far as I know. Suspect like many mid-tier schools it varies between departments and it is pretty much what the student makes of it in undergrad.

ROCK: in my NSHO ( in matters of The Academy ) you are right that the education in virtually any college will vary from department to department....and right also in asserting that what the student brings to the table (attitude, aptitude, intellect, etc) is a major variable. Also, given my recollections from years back, as posted, the "party school" perception does not surprise.

I continue to maintain that UCONN takes no back seat of significance to UVa re academics. Obviously, our opinions and perceptions don't count. And if mom and dad are really pushing for staying home, we're located where we're located, and that isn't going to change. But, from the little I know about Dad, I'd be surprised if he didn't support both her independence and her wishes re college. No data at all on Mom so far.
