True but certainly it was not clear after the Temple game for us arm chair football experts that Joe gave us the best chance to win games. I didn’t join the Joe camp until after the UAB game. For those who figured out sooner I give them credit. We all want to win and play the players that give us the best chance to win. I never have a problem admitting I was wrong. One wonders how all injuries impacted Evers development this year. In any case , Joe has earned his playing time. I am riding Joe for our Bowl game victory.
Go Huskies!

Joe has handled his time at UConn with total class. No matter the circumstances, he worked hard, played hard, was always gracious and represented the university well. He also provided some great moments on the field and some meaning victories. Best of everything headed forward for young Mister Fagnano.

18-4, TD to INT ratio speaks for itself.
Also 7th nationally in yards per completion at 14.2, just ahead of Cam Ward. The 18 TD passes in a single season is tied for 7th all-time in UConn history (Matt DeGennaro, 1987). Only behind Dan O in the FBS era.

I looked up his stats - he is 18th in the country QB Rating; top 50 in TDs, over 1,400 yards with a partial season. Stats would say “not bad” at all.
NCAA shows him as 22nd with a 152.02 rating, but that's still excellent for us.

-> “My career ended up being completely different than I thought,” Fagnano said, after throwing for three TDs in UConn’s 47-42 win at UMass. “I think a lot of kids my age did, with COVID and everything, battling a couple of injuries. That was the Lord’s plan for me and right now I’m just focused on getting one more with these guys. I think it’s a special team.” <-

Well, I wish that Mora had come to his senses sooner, glad that he realized that he had made a mistake by benching Joe.

Joe did everything we could ask from him. He is a good quarterback. He is absolutely is one of the reasons why we finish the season at 8-4!

I’m not so much a team Joe versus team Evers— just one of the best player to start the position. It became increasingly apparent that player was Joe.

Again, I wish maybe a game or two sooner, but I’ll take him as a starter in the last three games.

What bothered me most about the Joe doubters was when they were saying he got the start because favoritism, not merit. That was terrible take in real-time not just retrospect.
Who was saying that?? Or do you mean last year when Charlton was here?

we are talking last year
Well it couldn't have been for very long. He got hurt early (game 2?), and only had 35 attempts.

I do remember that folks were excited about Taquan Roberson because of his credentials and Zion Turner since we had just come off the bowl season with him. We didn't get the greatest season out of either one last year...

I wish it came in the preseason. It was clear early on, Evers accuracy was too much to overcome. Hope it gets better by next season.

No matter who the QB was this year, we had our most success when we focused on the run. A lot of times this season it seemed like we were trying to prove we were a passing team. We are not.
Disagree. The passing game opened up the LOS for the running game. The passing threat made UConn a threat to score quickly from anywhere on the field. The running game was a nice compliment.

I hope Nick gets better, and I REALLY hope that we get to see something special from Welliver. Not sure if his inability to crack the lineup this year was just "freshman learning play book" thing, or maybe he's less than the hype we were getting out of Texas last year. I'm hoping it's the former...

ESPN shows 18, but either way pretty decent.

Whats so frustrating with Evers is you can see the athleticism and arm strength, but doesn't progress at all. All of his issues are correctable and he just doesn't seem to do anything at all

I really think it was a combination of things. Not quite ready, keeping him under wraps to avoid having everyone come after him to transfer and knowing that we had what the staff thought would be a good starter in Evers and an adequate backup in Fagnano. I’m hopeful that they think Welliver will be ready to play next season.

Very, very few freshman QB's start for FBS teams.

Very, very few freshman QB's start for FBS teams.
Sure. But of the ones that do, they normally do at places where the QB play has been lacking, or injuries. We've had both...

The kid has a lot of snaps and I saw no discernible improvement. His R in the RPO was pretty unimpressive, and his P was narrow vision, single read, inaccuracy. Some kids are portal kids for a reason. I wish he was a superstar that lived up to his billing. But game day speed, intensity and pressure sifts the wheat from the chaff after enough games. I see little chance Evers makes a big step up because it didn’t show up in the little spurts or flashes of great playmaking you see in young, talented QBs poised to mature into excellent players. That’s my take.

I will admit that I was not the biggest fan of Joe last season and to start this season. However he did clearly improve from last season and coupled with some good receivers, he managed to do a pretty good job of things. Exactly the kind of "transition QB" we needed to pick up wins and get back to a standard of decent play.

Unless Welliver is "The Truth", we need a QB for next year. Hard to sift through the inexplicable commitment to Evers, but it does not appear he'd be an upgrade from Joe Fagnano(given health). The hiring date for Brad Robbins was almost the same, a week or so earlier than the commitment date for Evers. Question is who was most responsible for Evers recruitment. I'm guessing Sammis, unless Bell, who committed in January was a conduit.
