the broadcast lineup for Thursday night on WTIC: He'll do play by play with Kevin Nathan in the broadcast booth alongside. Sean Mulcahy will cover sideline reports.

Nice. I couldn't stand Sean Mulcahy on SNY, or the SNY studio coverage for that matter, so I hope he does better on the radio network. Joe D is the man though...

Joe D used to bother me until I heard the clusterducks that are most colleges' game broadcasts. He is far, far better than average.

Will Kevin still have his call in show or will he just profess his love for PP throughout the game?

My measure of all broadcasters is how they compare to Chuck Kaiton. IMO, most cant hold his ! That man could make you feel like you were at the Montreal Forum or Boston Garden w/ out ever seeing a hockey game ever! We were blessed here in CT to have one of the greatest ever to sit in a booth for decades calling games for the Whale. We just didn't know it at the time..... These clowns around here are just that.....

I'm pretty sure many knew how awesome Chuck was at the time.

If you want to bang your head against the wall on a broadcaster change... John Forsland replacing Rick Peckham? Hey hey whadda say is the opposite of Touchdown Connecticut.

I can't stand Kevin Nathan. He is one of the most condescending pricks on the air. I can't even count the number of times I wanna rip my radio out of the car listening to his call-in show while waiting to get out of the Rent where he tells everyone who criticizes UConn wrong and a moron.

I agree for those who were aware at the time, but not sure many remember what a gem he truly was. I remember staying up til after midnight just to listen to him call the west coast games against the Kings, Oilers etc... All the while knowing I had to wake up at 4:45am to get to the rink on the weekends for hockey practice. Rick Peckham!!! Wow, that's a name that I had almost erased from my memory banks. Didn't he go on to call the plays for Tampa Bay?

Yup. He still announces for them and Forslund still announces for Carolina. I'm sad to report that Forslund's man-crush Darryl Reaugh moved on to do color in Dallas. Forslund always had that special twinkle in his eye with Reaugh.

Kaiton was the best ever. I used to tape his games and mimic is play by play when I was a kid.

Nelson Emerson "big ones" (waquoit's joke) got pounded/knocked out trying to cross the blue line. While play was stopped so that Emerson could wake up, the camera was on The other teams bench (cannot remember who) where players where laughing, to which Forslund summoned his inner Ted Baxter and said "that's not funny puppy!"

As much as Forslund was a tool, Darry Reaugh came in with him, thought he was the best color announcer the franchise ever had (with apologies to Cheesy).

So in the course of my college internship I worked at WILI and a good part of what I did was board op Whalers games.

If you liked Chuck on the air you would have loved his commentary that wasn't broadcast.

I remember Jason Muzzatti was starting one night and Chuck's comment watching warm-ups was: I hope this kid is saving as much money as he can, because this isn't going to last long.

I didn't mind Reaugh but he was no Cheevers.

You have to go back a while to have a soft spot for Andre Laquoix. "You know Chuck... The Whalers look like they are skating in cee-ment"

LMAO, Laquoix.... He was a riot. When he got all excited during a game you couldn't understand a Damm thing that came out of his mind half of the time with that thick French Canadian accent he had. Hell, I think he was the only reason I understood the strippers at Club Supersex in Montreal when I used to visit them while playing in the CanAm tournament in the spring every year.

Even thought Muzzatti sucked, the ESPN announcers loved him!! That of course was back when ESPN was awesome and you wouldn't miss a show even if it was just cricket season. When he made the highlight real they were like:"Ahhhhhhh Muzzaaaaaaaatti......." That never got old!
