If UConn gets into a major conference, it owes it all to Jim Calhoun. He should get something really, really big named after him. A floor at a basketball court isn't quite enough.

And Lew Perkins who saw the changes coming over 10 years ago....

"I'd face any challenge. Anywhere," Calhoun said. "Line 'em up and let's play them. I'd be excited by it."

That says it all.

WE are VERY ATTRACTIVE, We have a hell of a lot more upside than Syracuse or Pitt. And particularly Boston College. We can be an Oregon type cool Program. OUR Fanbase CAN expand dramatically.

Gotta love this quote by JC.

"I'd face any challenge. Anywhere," Calhoun said. "Line 'em up and let's play them. I'd be excited by it."

Helllll, going to the ACC and having the chance to regularly play UNC and dook might be enough to keep JC around for five more years. Can't see him riding off in to the sunset leaving behind any challenge- provided his health allows it.

The only quibble with the article is that JC would have stated the same thing a year ago. He never has backed down from a challenge.

And for the record JC has always placed UConn above everything else. He left over 2.75 million in 2001 to stay at UConn. He was forward thinking and supported and promoted UConn's change to Division 1A.

Is that what SC had offered?

It was an increase over the salary he was making at UConn. And it took place after the 2001 season when UConn was in the NIT and the games were played at Gampel and nearly half the seats were empty. In other words the fans abandoned JC and the team but he stayed with UConn.

You think his blood isn't racing at the thought of the chance to walk into a gym and utterly obliterate BC and Miami right now? He'd run the score up to 150 points if he could on them.

It's already in his contract (I believe) that he'll have a position in the AD if/when he retires.

There have been cases where the head football coach was made AD of a University's AD. Calhoun would be perfect for that.

Bottom line is he is a superstar, and he brings us cache and gravitas. We need to lock him in for another five years or so.

i dont see it that way. KU offered to triple his salary. thats hard to say no to at any job !

I'd agree with you if it wasn't his modus operandi. He split from his last 3 jobs just as the going got tough.
