Not trying to blame this game on the refs, because they had many much larger problems than that (cough cough Shabazz) but how old is that guy now?

It's not my intention to offend anyone in their golden years, but does the Big East really think that a guy that old sees fouls and rule violations as quickly as someone a bit younger?

Shouldn't there not be a mandatory retirement age for officials kind of like what they have for airline pilots? In a game that requires split second calls and judgments, I just don't think Burr and Cahill should be on the court anymore.

I think there should be press conferences after each game where tape is played and the refs have to explain the call they made and why. Some accountability for their decisions (or lack thereof) would be cool. Too much to ask for any accountability or integrity though now a days

Very similar to the losing streak last year, UConn us not given any breaks. Burr blew at least four out if bounds calls in ND's favor, the mist critical of which was against SN on the three in the last minute. Either you make the correct call and call a foul or you call the ball out if bounds to UConn.

RBs clean strip of Grant in the lane with under two.
Always giving the flopper, Martin the block call, regardless of whether there is any real contact then not calling the block on him when RB makes a pretty spin in the lane
and it was obvious that the flop made contact and affected Boat's shot.

ND was the zebra darling today. Now, that being said, we lost this game because for most of the game UConn played like total crap...awful on both ends if the floor.

At a minimum we will need to go 6-4 the rest of the way to have a hope for an at large...won't happen if they keep playing this way

At this stage of the 'season' IMHO this team is the best 66th team in the nation. I agree, they are young but with the talent they have they should be playing significantly better on both sides of the court. Will be very interesting how the remainder of the season ends up, especially without a 'leader' on the court.

Let's not even go at Burr or any of the refs. I will say one thing since it's here already, to continue to promote the defensive stiffs like Martin and their ability to fall all the time is a joke. If he does take a charge fine, give it to him, but if he falls trying to take a charge and is not called for a block then it's BS....(re"Boatrights lay in late)....if he is not in position but still gets a piece of someone then it's a block...make the stiff play some defense for once or else transfer to Duke....

Having said that not one call made a difference on the game and ND has a bitch for the 5 second call it was pitiful................

It was an ugly game, and I wouldn't put the loss on the officials.
But I will say that as a matter of policy, officials should be forced to watch footage of the entire game (clockwork orange style) that they just officiated, whether it's that day, or a day after, and write up a report on it.
And if they make mistakes they should have to pay a fine, be it $100, 500, whatever. The problem with sports in general is that, ostensibly (from a fan's perspective) there are no repercussions for calls. Make it more obvious that you'll be penalized for a bad call and maybe you'll be a better official.

Burr is one of the better officials. He's also know as someone who doesn't let a home crowd change his game.

Love the idea problem is who do they penalize for a "no-call" because with dollars eing taken away they won't take a chance on making any calls!!

Sure, but under my hypothetical scenario they would be tazed in the balls for missed calls as well as bad calls.

Maybe my eyes are as bad as Burr's, but in the possession in the second half where it went down to 5 sec, then 4 sec, didn't the rebound of the first 3 point shot hit the top of the backboard or the support for the shot clock? Shouldn't that have been out of bounds, or am I going crazy?

It certainly did, and that no-call was just one of the many reasons I was left shaking my head/resisting the urge to vomit in my mouth over the course of the entire game. It was just a painfully ugly game from any possible perspective, and seemed like a rerun of the prior two games. It's sad, but it would be a marked improvement if the Georgetown game doesn't reduce me to wanting to gouge out my own eyeballs.

I think we also need to look at the amount of games these officials are doing per week. Jim Burr did the Seton Hall game in Newark last night at 8. By the time that game was done and by the time he got to CT, I think this is way too much to ask of these officials (especially the older ones like Burr).

bingo! these guys are maxed out and they hit a wall. They are human. IMHO basketball should go the way of football and have league-specific officials instead of guysnwho can work multiple leagues. I did an AAU tournament with a guy years ago who worked CUSA, Sun Belt, Horizon, MEAC, and MAC games. he said by Feb 1st you don't even know what gym you are in, you just go out there and do the best you can on that night but the politics is such that if you want to move up to the big time leagues, you can't say no, ever.

Five games per week max and no night/day double dips.
