I really like Jewel's game and wish she played for someone other than ND. Of course, eventually she will because her eligibility expires after next season. And when that happens, she *might* make a team at the next level in addition to a WNBA squad. I refer, of course, to Team USA.

What are your thoughts? Assuming she tries out, do you think she'd make the Olympic team? She's a pleasure to watch, and I think she could add value to the Olympics and make things all the more entertaining.

I don't think so. I think McBride is better and she didn't make it. I think Loyd has a higher ceiling, but McBride has a high ceiling too imo. I haven't seen a lot of them other than us and spot games.

By the way, with MoJeff's recent play - is Loyd a lot better?

I'd like to see MoJeff play ND again.

There are plenty of seasoned pros who are better players ahead of Loyd. Even Stuart is very iffy.

I think his point was that she was overwhelmed by the play of the bigger, stronger, more experienced international players and she's not a lock to make the team in 2016. Given her play this year, I'd say her chances are slightly less than they were a year ago. If Stewie struggles on offense against double teams vs. college players, what makes anyone think she'd be more successful vs. seasoned international players (even if the defense is only straight up 1 on 1? Yeah I know the poster in question misspelled her name, but let's be honest - Stewie was overwhelmed and ineffective for Team USA...

As for Jewell, I know she's a 2G, but Geno loves multidimensional players. I would say at the very least, Bird, Taurasi, Whalen, McBride, Simms and Diggins are ahead of her on the depth chart.

I've always thought that:
a) Jewell will be the best pro of the recent Notre Dame players, better than Diggins, better than McBride
b) Jewell will be a fixture on the USA national team

I think 2016 probably comes too soon for her but I would not be surprised at all if she does make it.

I think I agree on the first 2 points, but I think 2016 is likely too soon. Of course, it depends on the health and interests of the older players. I think Jewell gets strong consideration, but comes up short. The lack of pro experience is tough to overcome. I see Sue, Dee, Lindsay, Seimone, and Odyssey together one more time.

It is an interesting question as to what the pool of players for 2016 will look like. I am pretty sure Stewart and Loyd will be in the pool and KML and Moriah may also get into the pool. As for the team, Stewart is pretty likely as USA is grooming her in the 'next gen'. She may not be putting up big numbers this YTD but she is expanding her game and getting stronger. The others ... probably not. I think those listed above from the WC pool are all more likely for Rio. They have a better chance of making the team in 2018 when more of the old guard will be gone.

I agree with this, execept I wouldn't be surprised to see Diggins supplanting either Augustus or Sims. As for comparing Mojeff to Loyd, well one is a pg and the other is a sg. Give me a team with both players and you won't find a better backcourt in college.

Seimone has the best midrange jumper and one-on-one moves in the world. I see her on the team in 2016. In 2018, I expect Sue and probably others to be gone. Will 2016 be a transition year? Could be. It's too early to tell.

I'm thinking that some players will be out due to wear and tear, and of course 2 years is a long time in basketball terms.

I don't see her in Rio becouse of the players which are on the current team. I believe that 2018 will be a transition year for USA Basketball and it's very possible that some of the young talented players such as Loyd will make the team. For the 2020 Olympics, she should be a lock.

I am going out on a limb but not totally, Sue Bird will be the PG in Rio if she is healthy. The worry for USA basketball is the PG position. There are very few true PGs out there, those that are willing to lead and run the TEAM and not be concerned about scoring.

Well, if this Breanna Stuart is related to Mary Stuart, she might be iffy because she might be inclined to lose her head. :D

Stewart will be on the team barring a major catastrophe. She has always done well in USA Basketball and this year she was on the team to gain experience, not to make a huge impact. Not with 11 other professionals on the team. Give her a year in the WNBA and she'll be fine.

It will be very hard in 2016. the World Championship team was;
bigs - charles griner ogwumike dupree
pg - bird whalen sims
guards - wings - taurasi mccoughtry moore augustus stewart
they can also choose from fowles thomas ogwumike kml parker vandersloot diggins & della donne cash a. jones & catchings
healthy & if they want to play I would lean to the players in bold with a need for another true point guard. diggins sims whalen and vandersloot can fight it out. this team would have incredible versatility and would be a consistent match up nightmare. they will take stewart to make sure she is ready to star in 2020. taursi can be the 3rd pg. if catchings still wants in how do you say no. mo jeff lloyd and tuck fight for 2020 spots

When one looks at how loaded the 2014 team was and then realizes that Catchings, Parker, Fowles, and DelleDonne were missing, the competition is REALLY tough.

Stewie is iffy, because EDD is most likely available and EDD is the more elite player.

I thought Catch retired from USA bball? Maybe I made that up. I don't see Fowles making it if Griner/Charles are both available.

Loyd has no chance for 2016, unless many top players are out.
