Anyone have any ideas what the six new players next year will take for their jersey number? Who gets 3 now that it is open.....

Evina is going to wear 22.

My strong guesses...
Paige - 5 (also her USAB number)
Piath - 32
Nika - 10

After that...
Aaliyah - 2, 11, or 15 (Aaliyah usually wears 24, but that’s not currently available. I could see 2 for Gigi since 24 was an homage to Kobe, 11 was her team Ontario number, and she’s worn 15 for Team Canada [she has also worn 9 for Canada, but...]).

And then...
Mir - I have no earthly idea. She usually wears 1 and has worn 10, but, muck more likely than not, she’ll end up with a completely new number.

Interesting Tom Brady just signed with Tampa Bay. One of his main wide receivers, Chris Godwin, already wears #12. But Brady has a lot invested in that number with his "TB12" brand & all. I heard Brady has been in touch, but about football and getting to know each other, not the uniform number. Would this have been discussed prior to him signing?

That’s tricky when people are buying specific players’ jerseys. I could see Brady making it a priority in negotiations...

Pullido, on the other hand, wore three numbers in three seasons. She gave 11 to Kia, 24 to Phee, and graduated wearing 2.

I do wonder, however, if certain high-profile high school players would nix an option if their number wasn’t available.

I think Godwin has already said that Brady is welcome to the number.

there is no magic in a jersey number...Geno doesnt allow 0, 00, or 1 any other numbers off-limits ?
Still like Paige as number 1...Unique identifier she is Paige not there to be compared to anyone else...I suspect only 1 or 2 will be compared to her when she is done...

Typically with numbers; a Rolex goes one way and the number comes back the other.

I believe he says he deserves the number out of respect. But did not commit. I think he's waiting for the rolex

Thought Geno had said no one would wear 50 for Lobo

How did this thread become a discussion of Tom Brady. Who cares about him. I am disappointed that he decided to go to another team.... I mean retire and be a one team person like Jeter. Never liked Brady or the Pats... and dislike them more now that they are being discussed here.

JordyG, you are correct. He said out of respect for Tom, he would give him number 12.

Not too many choices for basketball players. I don't know why this rule?

Legal numbers are: 00, 0-5, 10-15, 20-25, 30-35, 40-45, 50-55. Team rosters may not include both 0, and 00.

Easier for refs to signal scorers table with one hand then using both for one number(9) less confusion

Paige - Either # 1 or # 5 (I think that her preference would be # 1, as that has been her main number during HS)
Piath - I agree, it will be # 32
Nika - If she asks Sue Bird if she can wear it, then it will be #10, but I suspect it might be # 4
Aaliyah - # 2
Mir - # 12

Interesting. Did not know that. Makes sense. Back in the day we used to raise our hand when we were called for a foul. These days the only way you can tell is tby looking for whoever has an incredulous look on her face. Stef was (still is) the queen of "Who, me?"

I would love to have a class like this where there are five players to have the numbers in a row...like 10,11,12,13,14-or 15. Something like that would be fun. Or since they are coming in 21... something like 11,21,31,41,51....

In the old days of baseball numbers were at first handed out according to batting order. That, of course, couldn’t last. But in basketball, it would be interesting to explore. 1, 11, 12, 13, then 2, 22, 23; 3, 33,34, 4,44. 45; 5, 55, 56.

Not really, just bored...
