No surprise that he got worn out. With his schedule it's amazing it doesn't happen more often. Travel for recruiting, public appearances, team practices, games, plus the National Team. Glad to hear he is back to normal.

He looks 5 yrs younger after the hospital stay. A rested Geno with extra energy is a very, very scary thing (for his players!)

I loved his little joke about being on the back deck under a big blanket getting some sun, thinking it's 20 years too early. He's back. He's going nowhere .

When all's said and done this is a good story...from all points of view. Geno is close to 100% after being laid low by something that was very serious but, thankfully, not frightfully ominous. Jeff Jacobs gave us just enough info about what happened and got his material straight from the man himself. Written with a light touch and a bit of humor.

The weeks since Indy have had so many distressing stories about coaches being investigated, lawsuits, scandals, and now the overwrought CP affair.

Some pleasant news is welcome and Healthy Geno Laughs is just the ticket.

NBA coaching is the height of stress & frustration . I was once an associate of a very successful individual who constantly reminded me of the uncontrolled debilitating effect of stress. "Your health is your wealth'! No great honor to be the riches man in the cemetery !

Good point. Can't see Bobby Knight reasoning with LeBron can you! or ________________ or ____________________, etc.

Certain kinds of personalities, usually women, try to be all things to all people. Coaches of high profile teams have assistants of all kinds to handle much of the travel and mundane trivilia. Geno at his very advanced age should send the smaller DOGS out to do the hunting and retrieving. Great hunters always train the pups to take over the minor details until they a big enough to do the hard stuff.
Good to hear this isn't a chronic condition or one with lasting results--appears self inflected. Gods should know better.

I guess we'll always wonder whether LeBron is as good at dodging chairs as our last president was at dodging shoes thrown his way by an angry journalist.

Eeek! Most of the people on the board are older than Geno :)

Geno was having trouble breathing and needed to get off the airplane to go to the hospital.

Sounds pretty scary.

Having had it myself, yes, it is very scary. This wasn't just a function of a guy working very hard. That is a contributing bit. But this illness, by whatever name, has been very wide-spread here in Illinois. He may have picked it up on a recruiting trip...who knows.

It starts out as a routine sniffle that we tend to ignore (major mistake). Then comes a brief feverish period, lasting as little as 24 hours worth. Then comes the sinus congestion that quickly moves to the chest. By this time, it's got you. Bronchial pneumonia, weakness, difficulty breathing, dizzyness, sleep cycle askew, etc. My key point is that Geno was lucky to get out of the hospital so soon. In his (my) age group, this thing can be lethal. It nearly took me out permanently.

Fellow BY seniors: At your next visit with your MD, ask about inoculations and other measures that help you defend yourself. This thing is a real bitch that you want no part of. Peace, out.

Won't help. Everyone I know who's had this really bad flu (myself and my wife included) had the flu shot. The key is not to assume you're suddenly better, because you probably aren't. Takes at least a month to be finally over it.

In my case, three months, and still a few symptoms persist. Maybe 90% back right now. I might suggest that the flu shot isn't the key. Agree with you on that. But there is a pneumonia shot(s) available. I was at the tail end of the shot's protective period. Rather rotten luck. You may be assured that both my MD and I will make quite sure that I am completely current before next winter,

I think Bigbird is talking about 2 different pneumonia shots to ward of bronchitis becoming pneumonia. Hey, we could have an off topic "sub-board" where we do geeser talk all day! Trade stories about the best buys in compression stockings, etc. What do you say? great or what! :D
