That's my opinion (LOL)..........seriously this is his program and his team. He will not leave this team with KO unless he is absolutely tired of the health issues and believes his constant time away is a detriment to the program. If knows he can be on the court ready to coach this team on Oct 15th he will be there and firing up the troops. This is his type of team, chip on the shoulder go out and punch some people, outwork them.

I get all of the people who hope he doesn't leave the program just so Warde is "stuck' with KO but think about it.......if he does leave him with this team in that sense and KO does not do well, he leaves the door wide open for Warde to carve his name in the program and go out and get whom he wants. If he leaves now they will not award him the position he will be the interim coach for the whole year more than likely so the above scenario is still likely. Doubt JC wouldn't be looking at that as a possibility.

He'll be here, 2 more years!!!

My opinion is if he is staying stay for 2 full years or at min announce this is his last and he'll participate in the search and transition.

Way to go mau to make sure people check this thread.

I'm not sure even JC knows what he wants at this moment. These last several years have been rough on him to say the least. I think he would have left by now if it wasn't for President Herbst and the current situation with the apr ruling. My guess is he's torn between being exhausted for having to continuously defend himself and his desire to help the university.

Certainly he has an element of self importance. No successful person doesn't. But I believe he is genuine about the program's success. I was convinced of that by his behavior after 2000. That was when the team limped into the NIT and JC implored fans to show up at Gampel to help the young team do well. Unfortunately the fans didn't heed his wish. After that season South Carolina offered him a huge increase in salary to coach there.

JC had the incentive of $$ and the poor attitude of an ungrateful fan base to bolt the program. But he stayed. To me that action is more significant than any other thing he's done or is postulated by all us talking mutton heads. The guy did want UConn to be on the map. JC bolts if he is singularly about a legacy.

So he can do anything he wants about his approach to retirement imo. And I'll respect him. Because if he had been like 99.999999% of the people in this world he would have left after 2000 and UConn would probably only have 1 NC to its name.

I give him 19 months.

There has to be a Larry Brown game at Gampel.

if jc comes back this season whats he coming back for? the team isnt eligible for post season play and is likely going to be a middle of the pack team in the big east. after the season we`ll have to go through yet another summer of speculation on whether he is coming back or not. he should retire and let ko take the helm this season and since there are no expectations or pressures of making the post season ko can just coach. jc has nothing to prove and nothing more to accomplish its time for him to ride off into the sunset and this program to move forward into a new era.

Sorry just having some fun with the title as hoops gets closer.......having watched the Husky football team I believe JC or KO need to take over the offense for Deleone as I'm sure they would do a better job there too!! LOL

Hey with the main titles being "caption this picture" and "Chad Dawson..." we needed some hoops talk back so whatever it takes. Hope he returns and fires this young team up this year that's all!!

To me it's not a good time to throw KO into the fire it will be.....

what fire? this team has low expectations and no chance to play in the post season. throwing ko into the fire would be naming him coach with a team with talent expected to compete for a league title and a final four. there couldnt be a better time for ko to step in and see what he`s got.

Disagree to a point.....low expectations to a degree but we know JC would thrive in this scenario and maybe even make them contenders.....if they go 7-21 under KO will people wonder despite the "low expectations"?? You could look at it in different ways as far as I can see....leaving him after next year fully loaded isn't too bad either......

Can we edit this title? Cute little idea at first, I guess, but now it's just annoying.

The Mirage/Vegas has put up a futures bet on the board regarding who will be the head coach at UConn this upcoming season:

Calhoun 6/1
Ollie 10/1
Hobbs 75/1

It appears Vegas agrees with you. Only time will tell. Place your bets!

Just having some fun if it annoys everyone just delete the damn thing I could care less.........wouldn't annoy me at all I don't take myself serious!! :)

lol! make them contenders for what exactly? if the team goes 7-21 with ko it doesnt matter because the team isnt eligible for anything and the talent isnt really there. you give him another season and if the team gets better and he`s able to bring in some big time recruits you move forward with him. if his second season is also a struggle you go out there and get a shaka smart or another big name to head the program.

It doesn't matter huh? This is not a bad team no matter what some may think....improvement in some area's will be expected despite departures. Whether they are eligible or not, there are some expectations and don't forget that, especially with the "spoiled."

You may be right, this could be the perfect year, I just disagree!

I have not chimed in on much the last few months but I can tell you that JC would love to retire now if he thought he could do it without impacting the program in a negative way. The signals he is sending really seem to point toward a desire to find the right exit strategy IMHO.

i respect that. we can agree to disagree but i just see no reason for jc to come back. he doesnt owe anyone anything and he has nothing to prove. we need to see what we have or dont have in ko.

He may want to pass those guys on the list, who knows what is important to JC, especially if he is feeling good again. It's his call. I would rather him play out his time, get ahead of everyone he can on the list, rather than play a game to get KO the gig on an interim basis. But again, IMHO, it's his call and we are along for the ride. We shall see soon enough, be patient. JC may surprise us yet.

I couldn't agree more, hence JC's meeting with Herbst. Manuel needs to get his ego out of the way and let his happen. Word is give Ollie a three year contract. Quite frankly, this season is a throw away - other than recruiting - next year will be building with a solid recruiting class, followed by judge him in year 3. JC is ready to move on. Ironically, Hathaway liked Ollie and may have done that deal, especially since it would get JC out of the way.
