at least they are making an effort. would have rather seen Nash there (or in Brooklyn - hate LA), but they are trying at least.

Unfortunately, he's well past his sell-by date. Hopefully for the Knicks he can still be a complementary piece, but you can't depend on him to lead a team any more.

Wow, Knicks actually got the Grandfather of PGs ................................. oops I mean Godfather. Maybe he's there to also help develop Lin.

Not sure why, but the Knicks are now in the same boat as Boston and San Antonio to win the title next year.

Kidd's biggest role on the team is to mentor Lin. In my humble opinion I believe the Knicks got ridiculously lucky in getting Kidd for a three year mid-level contract instead of Nash for Shumpert, pretty much every backup on the roster and a $10mm+ per year three year deal.

Odds makers are well aware of how silly Knicks fans will get over this acquisition... They'll be exiting in the first round again

big city teams always haves slightly lower odds than they should due to their large fanbases.

any knicks fan excited about a Jason Kidd signing is delusional.

Golly, thanks for setting us dummies straight, what with your VAST expertise in the NBA. You'd think Pat Riley would have better things to do than troll this forum.

Kidd is 1 year removed from being the starting PG for NBA champion Mavericks.

He's coming here to split time with Lin and be a veteran presence for $3M a year. Nobody is saying he's going to push the Knicks over the top but it's a decent signing.

What's not to like?

I wonder if I could bet "the field" against the Knicks. Even if it's -5000, I feel like it's easy money.

Kidd might have to mentor Linn via email. I expect the Knicks to match, but the backloaded deal is a tough pill.

I thought the Kidd signing was great, but then I remembered it was 2012. Forget a basketball, he can't even defend his french fries from his kid anymore.

Knicks ain't winning a championship next year. No way, no how.

If you'd like to take them at 12-1, I can save you half your money - take the money you were going to bet on the Knicks and light half of it on fire. Then, put the other half in your pocket.

Kidd makes some sense assuming the Knicks bring back Lin - not a bad signing there. (Although the 3 years is a little funny, since there's about a 100% chance he retires before Calhoun.)

Personally I would have signed Felton for about a third of the money they're giving Kidd/Lin. But he's not nearly as marketable as the other two, and we all know that's essential for Dolan.

All that's left for the Knicks now is to re-sign JR Smith, and with a healthy Shumpert they might have a chance against the Nets in the 4-5 matchup!

Looks like Lin is gone to play with J Lamb. Can't blame him.

I would think the hope is to bring in the veteran to improve team chemistry. A pass first/only point guard can alleviate some of the concerns the big guns have with shot attempts per game not being at their agent's desired level.

Knicks will match. He's not going anywhere.

I think this signing is a head scratcher. I was listening to a podcast with Jalen Rose yesterday and he mentioned that a big factor in why the MAVS wanted DWill was;
Jalen Rose: "Jason Kidd is MY age AND I retired from the NBA in 2007."

Kidd did help win the championship in 2011, but he was running on fumes and the key players in that championship were Dirk, Dirk, Dirk, a healthy dose of Tyson Chandler and Jason Terry and a sprinkling of Jose Barea & DeShawn Stevenson. The way he was closing games, Dirk could have won that thing with any PG competent enough to hand him the ball. Kidd will not play the 3rd year of this contract, no way.

I think it's really just a leadership, mentoring signing. We now have 2 starters a year removed from a championship team. Kidd is 2nd all time in assists and 3rd all time in 3 point shooting. I'm ok with the pickup, not thrilled, but ok with a solid signing.

With that being said, I would start Kidd over Lin with Lin getting more of the minutes. Kidd can get the ball to the big guys better than Jeremy can at this point in their career.

when you're shooting % is considerably less than your age, there is an issue.

and yes, i realize he's not a scorer. but the point is still valid.

He doesn't need to be a scorer, just get everyone involved and hit open shots.

agreed 100%. he's not there to score it, i get that.

if he takes the ball out of Melo's hands and gets to control the ball more, it'll be a net positive for the team. the same way Nash getting the ball out of Kobe's hands will be a huge positive for them. if Melo/Kobe can do a little less, both of their games could make huge leaps next season in terms of efficiency and helping their teams win. i just don't see either of them adapting and not commanding the ball.

Who is he going to guard? I recall Kidd getting his hands on some balls and being a decent team defensive player during the 2011 title run, but two long years later for a very challenged defensive team Kidd is an unaffordable liability. Kidd + Carmelo + Amare has got to be the worst defensive BIG 3 in history of league.
