Coasting on reputation is not taking the stairs. In the real world it gets your ass fired.

Dan Hurley is holding these guys accountable.

When you haven't had any accountability in the last couple years, it can be hard to clean up. It starts with Jalen, and I love that Hurley is not messing around.
You would think he would have figured these things out on his own by now. Ollie didn't do his job but Jalen could be postioning himself where he and his family never have to think about money again and he still doesn't seem to get it.

It’s also on the older players.

Bazz and boat didn’t let this crap fly.

Well, you have Scooter Adams, Cobb who's a few months removed from basically getting thrown off the team and then Yakwe and Smith - both of whom are transfers. After that it's Williams, who is also a JUCO guy (sorry, JUCO guys are JUCO guys for a reason - always), a walk-on and Christian Vital who has great fire, but isn't the most disciplined guy in the world.. Mix in the fact there's been zero leadership there in years and well...

Shouldn't be surprising that there's a leadership deficit here.

Williams went the JUCO route because of prep school credit issues...totally unnecessary dig at his character right there.

Yep. I have no doubt that Hurley will make our program special again with or without Jalen's assistance, but Jalen essentially has a second chance to live up to his potential to become as special as his skills indicate that he should be. It's all up to him now. I'm glad Hurley is taking it head on before the season even starts. Hopefully, one day, Jalen will be, too.

It's not a shot at his character. JUCO guys are JUCO guys for a reason.

Sometimes it's academic. Sometimes it's financial. Sometimes its character issues. Sometimes its discipline. Sometimes it's long-term goals. But there's always a reason.

Usually it's a character/academic thing - and in about 80%+ of those cases, it's that. He's 23 right now and it took a while for anyone to jump in again. There's probably a reason for that. Could just be the credits. Could be something else.

Either way - a 23 year old JUCO player who barely plays isn't going to have much cache in the leadership department, I wouldn't think.

"He originally committed to Oregon, but for academic reasons played two years of junior college basketball in Arizona"

Yes, there is a reason, and it's not the "something else" you've alluded to without a shred of evidence.
