not always -

Dante Taylor
Renardo Sidney
Keith Gallon

We can agree to disagree.

I am glad Jalen committed to us but I am NOT into stars. The bump could be due to his improvement of basketball skills or could be the school he committed to, among other factors. Again, congrats to him on choosing a great university and getting a full ride - cant wait to see him be part of ten toes in.

If he committed to Yale last month I am not sure he would have received a bump -

Ill stop here - Stars Schmars.

Sidney and Gallon had good freshmen years. This isn't an agree to disagree situation, you're just wrong.

The bump in Jalen's status is a result of his play in the AAU circuit. He can go to college of Rancho Kooka Munga and still be 5star. If Uconn ever had a team of a bunch of 2/3 star players we'd be Seton Hall. Not going to argue anymore ,it's dumb. Bring on Jalen,Stone,Newman and Enoch.

Here's why the stars are absolutely critical; the next time some dunderhead on this board opines <read in a whiney voice> : "we never get the 5-star guys, when was the last time we got a five-star recruit?", we will have some recent data with which to counter. This might buy us a year or so but probably not.

Adams was ranked 26th in the update before this one. He's now ranked 25th. The cutoff between 5 stars and 4 stars is 25th. So there's no real change in his ranking and the addition of the 5th star is meaningless.

stars schmars - UConn FB had a bunch of 2 star recruits that are presently playing in the NFL and there are a bunch of 5 star recruits that are now presently hanging on street corners - its whats inside and how coaching and mentorship molds the young individual.
The important word is probability

The higher rated you are the greater the probability you will be successful

Yes you will find 5 star busts and 2 star surprises but a higher percentage of 5 stars in basketball and football will be successful than 2 stars.

Renardo Sidney sat out freshman year due to a suspension. His first real season he averaged 14 and 8.

I've always found that arbitrary cutoff to be stupid.

Yes indeed. From some of the posts you read around here, you'd think it was just as likely we'd turn a sub-100 guy into a star as a top-10 guy.

Congrats to J.A. & his excellent play this summer, but it's all arbitrary...

5 Stars only seem to be important when it comes to the Mc.D's All American team. Since he committed UConn, when the selection of Mc.D's All American team comes about, ESPN will drop J.A. to 4 Stars & voters will leave him off because he didn't sign with KenSucky, Puke, Kansas or UCLA. See D.Ham's omission last year (despite being 5 Star throughout the season)...

5 stars has nothing to do with the NBA, it's applicable to college. Many 5 star college kids play well and are entertaining to watch at the amateur level. The NBA reference is unnecessary.

Kind of have to throw out Royce White. Great player but mental illness is a bitch. Sad story really.

Sidney was VERY good and could've been great.. but he didn't wanna be great and he wanted to eat lots of food. That was his downfall.

I don't really care much about stars except for the fact they boost the perception of the program. And then only really do that among the intense cbb followers.

I'm glad we know thay black guys from single parent families are more likely to become President than white guys with two parents.

Look at the footwork its a god damn clinic. Best overall footwork and lateral movement of any prospect weve ever had.
I'm expecting you to change your sig pic any day now.

At least you're not prone to exaggeration. Let me guess, sophomore in high school?
I dont see how It's an exaggeration. Weve been recruiting top talent for what 25 years? Who have we recruited whos had better footwork? Maybe ben gordon or ryan boatwright?

I think the point is that you can't make evaluations like that based on high school highlight videos.

Adams does have good footwork, definitely a bit of hyperbole in that claim. To me, his balance and body control is what really stands out and is even more impressive than his footwork.

I'm going to have to hold out my evaluation till I see him perform the tango and samba. ;)

Why does it seem like in every thread now a days, someone has to criticize someone's opinion?

I can understand doing so if someone is standing up for one of our guys, but this is now occurring with simple evaluations on recruits. As silly as it sounds, I'm not sure if many realize that there are a lot of lurkers who are afraid to post because they don't want to be criticized. A few I've met have told me that in the past. I'm not saying people can't do so, but IMO, it's getting a tad ridiculous lately.

You can't let ridiculous statements stand though. Then it makes the rest of us look like idiots (no comment on this particular thread).
