2025 Recruiting: Jacob Ross Visit (Brother of Jayden Ross)

At some point, between now and late August, a large amount of developmental to mid level kids in the portal, are gonna need a basic scholarship. Imagine not getting the NIL you wanted and you don’t have a scholarship or a scholarship that’s worth anything. So maybe a redshirt year, as a practice player, isn’t a bad idea for some.
It makes a ton of sense. Maybe you surprise and develop into someone who gets minutes. Otherwise you have access to some of the best facilities and training in the country and set yourself up to transfer in a year or two with a chance to get some playing time and maybe make some money.

It’s also a $ thing I suppose. Need cheap players to fill out the 11-13 spots.

The Ross brothers/family might be old school to some extent. Jayden easily coulda transferred, his brother has no business seeing the floor for us in the near future, yet they might both be hitting the practice floor for us this upcoming year. I appreciate them for trying to earn it.

Exactly!!! Decent NIL, a scholarship, the UConn summer alumni package with Hurley Sr. and Coach Calhoun present sometimes. And you can bank a year. Etc., Etc. , Etc.

Some day people will realize that red shirting rarely if ever happens in this day
Thanks for that, I don’t follow college basketball at all. But I truly think it makes sense for both sides. He is never playing for us next year and being in our developmental program for a year while collecting some NIL doesn’t seem like the worst option. Especially if he isn’t happy with what else he has on the table.

If he comes here he's very likely "red shirting"

If you don't play you're red shirted. You don't have to declare it or anything

From what I recall he's shorter than Jayden and not as (run/jump) athletic but more coordinated because he didn't have Jayden's growth spurt. Haven't watched full footage of him in a year+ though.

He looked pretty athletic from the video I posted.

He's reportedly 6'6 with a 7'0 foot wingspan and looks to be just as athletic as Jayden from highlights. I'm not sure why his stock dropped so much from when he was smaller and younger.

Jayden looked moreso in high school, IMO.

That's surprising, guess he grew a few inches, I'll have to watch his games, still his growth wasn't as sudden as Jayden's was. I think he was reported at 6'3-6'4 last time I saw full video of him. He did always look more coordinated, less gangly.

Borges with an article about the visit. Nothing that we didn't already know though.

Jacob Ross would seem to be the perfect fit for what UConn general manager Tom Moore said the team is looking for for its final three or four scholarships this year: a talented player who can vastly increase the Huskies' competition level in practice and, perhaps, work his way into a spot in the rotation at some point in the future.

Moore also noted that the team is looking for another wing, another combo guard and, perhaps, another combo forward. Jacob Ross would seem to fit in at least a couple of those categories.

UConn is mining the prep route, transfer portal and international markets for such players, including a couple of 7-footers who have been recruited by mid-majors and a few high-majors, as well.

This is at the end of the article. Has anyone heard any names or anything?

Imagine if Jamison (27’) becomes a 5 star. Now the legacy of the family would lead him here to UConn!

I have not heard anything about 7 footers. There are quite of few players in the portal ranked no higher than 3 stars at the center position.
