Jacob Furphy shines!

When Furphy scores, I'll scream, "Veg-e-MITE!!!!"

Excited about this kid, but it's really hard to tell how good he is - does he have any competition against elite American players? Still, he sure does round out a terrific class, doesn't he?!!
Furphy has done very well against international stars at his level.

Any idea what the competition level he is playing in this U20 team? Does not sound like the U20 Australian national team or is it

Competition level is not great. I couldn't tell you how it compares to the CCC or anything, but it's apparent that the size and athleticism are nowhere near something like La Lumiere or Bullis are playing.

It's an All State team. So like if U20 Connecticut were playing U20 New Hampshire and they also played Monteverde for some reason (global academy)

But with Australia caliber players, not USA. There's only a handful of high major D1 guys in the tournament.

His state is smaller and he's the whole team.

His entire state has a population half of Hartford county. They probably haven't had a legit pro prospect in years.

I'm hanging my hat on the looks test... I think we can all agree that he can obviously shoot it and he plays the game with a really high level of understanding. He was also on the NBA Global Team that came to the US, as one of the youngest players, and by all accounts was very successful playing with guys who were high-level prospects and teams that have had lottery picks. I think he won the "Sportsmanship Award" or something which means that he stuck out in some way. I think there were also one or two ex-NBA guys who coach/play in Australia who tweeted about how impressive he was. Suffice to say, I'm super excited about him.

when they all signed their letters of intent Dan Hurley referenced Newton/Spencer/Castle's size at 6'5"/6'4"/6'6" and getting back to that formula, so I'd imagine the backcourt and wing spots will all be in play for them
Yeah. Can't really run our offense with small guards/wings. It just doesn't work as it should. Too easy to impede smaller guys and deny the ball.

Furphy looks like a nice player. We may have a hidden gem.

Can Furphy play the point? We have several weaknesses for next year and point guard is one of them

No, he is a small forward.

Ironically Danny Hurley was a point guard, yet it's the position that has suffered the most (close tie is Center).

Is he a PG? Not really. He's a shooter first and foremost. On this Tasmania team he plays kind of a Doncic role, and he says he models his game after Giddey and Doncic. But that's more because they have no other options. He's a bit like a combo guard in a wing body. It's going to take him time to be an impact player, because his defense is going to have to be a work in progress guarding D1 athletes. He's Cam Spencer, but age 19 instead of 24.

After 2 games scoring 42 and 39, his team played the Global Academy today and got beat pretty good. He struggled, scoring 13 points on 14 shots with 6 turnovers.

Well now I can tell how old you guys are. Lol

Yes my generation, but luckily I never saw that video, maybe the stupidest video ever made. Good song though.

ps I wonder if PITA boycotted them because of Koala Bear abuse?

I see some Cam fire in him that we’re missing this year. Imagine how much worse it’s going to feel when he talks trash after dunking on someone with an Australian accent.

I Donked you.
