Man I was draaaaaaaagged for being skeptical about a retread that couldn’t find a job anywhere else

It’s sad. How do we find a staff who cares, wins, and stays. Being independent is a killer
Couldn’t find a job anywhere else? There are a lot of places that would have been happy to have him, but probably not NFL, but possibly P5. It’s not like he was bad anywhere.

This is the first time I've posted this, but after 2 and a half years of Mora, please just go Jim. Don't hurt this program any more than it has been. And, the next time one of your receivers runs a route shorter than to the first down line, they should chase you off the field. 3rd and 9 or 4th and eight, require you pick up 8 yards. Why don't your receivers know that, Jim?
I count 1 1/2 years.... did I miss something?

Disgaree. Roster.

Look at the scores. This team for whatever reason is unable to make the simple plays that win games. If they could they would be looking at a bowl.

Today on the final offensive drive they committed hold after hold. Most of them were away from the play. Just bad losing plays that were unnecessary. Take away those penalties and we are in a position to let BCU make the bad plays and give us the game.

Of course it's the talent level.
We were overmatched (not by a large margin, but enough) on both lines of scrimmage today.

We had at least three critical dropped passes and continually gave large cushions to their receivers.

We missed a ton of tackles on defense.

All of the above can be traced directly to a shortage of physical/athletic talent or indirectly (due to schemes designed to limit the damage deficiencies can lead to) to shortage of talent.

Those who believe it is merely coaching/playcalling spent too much time believing video game football and actual football are interchangeable.

Can't catch the ball when they need to. Can't tackle when they need to. Can't get first downs when they need to. Can't get yardage after punts when they need to. Can't go without penalties when they need to. Can't contain the QB when they need to. AND can't win when they HAVE to.

I posted this elsewhere:

Players executing vs coaches making good calls- They seem to coincide about 25% of the time. The other 75% one fails the other, hence the overall s*** show.

The idea is your HC is supposed to build a winning program. That means building a competent staff, getting the players you need, coaching the players up to perform and execute, holding players and coaches accountable and correcting mistakes, and managing the gave to give them the bests chance to win. Overall, Mora is failing on all accounts. Couple that with an AD that doesn’t give a crap about football and you have a mess. Really pathetic.

We need an OC and a DC, which is not a money issue since the funds are already there.

Mora needs to hit the transfer portal hard in the off-season, and look towards FCS if NIL becomes an issue. We do not need to drop a bag on every player in order to be 6-6.

Mora had been a failure at UConn.

The question is why would UConn hire a guy like Mora who had been fired (unsuccessful) at every head coaching position he had ever had?

Next time UConn should hire a young hungry coach who wants to win at UConn and use UConn as a springboard to a better program which would leave UConn in a better position than when the hound coach was hired.

I still think Mora's gone after this year, his two year stint at UConn a stain on his record. He said the team is fighting. that! I want the coaches to fight!!! Drill winning into the players, and play to win dammit.

Missed tackles is directly traced to a shortage of physical/athletic talent? That certainly wasn't my experience as a football player.

Whoever UConn hires, they need someone who knows offense and thinks defense is an after thought. Stop hiring coaches with defense pedigrees. UConn will never win consistently until they figure out the passing game and the offense side of LOS.

Exactly. Roster. Players gotta perform. Also, if that is the margin of error, you need more talent to increase margin of error.

But team is so close. They actually have some good players on the team. They just lack depth. They get one injury and the replacements typically are unable to play close to the same production. That doesn’t mean those guys aren’t valuable, but they need more depth, more talent across the board.

And, then, what they needs is game changing players at the high leverage position. Edwards actually looks like that. Kid is a player. I like him and Rosa as an explosive tandem.

It isn’t coaching. These guys can coach. They are getting good coaching.

The only thing that is really upsetting about their play this year is the record. If you watched them play, you wouldn’t think they were 1-7. They should be at worst 3-5.

We won’t know much about where the bottom is until we play SH and UMass. Vols will bat us around and JMU will outclass us as a winning program with confidence. Losing 10 or 11 will be devastating.

We were outplayed. They improved their team from last year. We have to do the same.

Mora has been consistently mediocre over his career. He’s laying a turd.
