Or uconn may not be considering him...doesn't specify in the article.
This certainly is odd. The fact that we had no coaches there is a strong indication that we either stopped recruiting him after adams committed or we don't think he would still come to uconn after the commitment.
I think we are moving forward with one guard in this class and trying to get another wing and several bigs like Enoch and stone or sharma or Comanche.
Newman would be a bonus but we may be focusing on battle and guards in the class of '16 at this point.

Adams, Samuel, Purvis and Cassell could have concerned him.

Logjam at the position more or less. By the time he gets here we could potentially still have Samuel, Purvis, Calhoun, and Cassell.

ya this has been going around the gossip mill for about two weeks.. hearing hall and zona are top schools with ville pushing

This also be a situation where KO didn't want to rock the boat at all with Adams. Adams certainly seems to welcome competition, but it could have sent the wrong signal for KO to keep recruiting point guards with Adams on board. Malik Newman is different as he is more of a pure sg. Adams and Briscoe are somewhat similar, even though they have different styles of play. I love Briscoe's game, so this is slightly dissapointing, but a month ago if you were to say we get either Adams or Briscoe we would all sign up - hard to imagine we would have gotten both. At the very least, this narrows our search a little bit - focus shifting to the Stone/Newman package, D. Jones, Enoch, Comanche, the Giant 7-4 kid, Sharma, etc..

What an idiot!

;)

It would be amazing if we could stockpile bigs right now, it seems like we wont have trouble talking guards into coming to Storrs, so getting over the hump and having decent bigs and I mean BIGS consider us as a destination would be excellent.

I find it funny that everyone says were "guard U" because to me its only been that way in the recent history, I felt like the 2000's were about Calhoun and UConn getting mediocre bigs and developing them into borderline NBA mainstays (not talking about Emeka obviously, but the others) so I think its funny that bigs don't seem to trust us lately

Every top tier school has a log jam somewhere and the top players usually do not care about having to earn playing time @ UK at center last year.

I thought this kid wanted to stay out West?

It seems like there are twice as many kids as usual I will need to forget about this summer.

Briscoe is from New Jersey. That's the only reason Hall, Rutgers, and St Johns are in the mix.

We've also had Ray, Rip, Khalid, Ben G, Marcus, AJP. Did you forget about those guys?

I find it somewhat interesting that L'ville is considered a guard school and that Pitino "lets his guards loose" or whatever Briscoe said.

Other than Russdiculous, what other guards have really starred there under Pitino? Siva was a nice player, but he was a huge recruit and didn't do much until Senior year. Williams was more of a point forward. Taquan Dean? Surely, I must be missing someone.

L'ville is a great program, Pitino is a heck of a coach, they have great fans and facilities etc. So im not questioning why someone would want to play there. But Pitino's system creates ball hawking defensive guards, not offensive stars.

This idea that recruits keep menti0ning, that somehow he will turn them into an offensive playmaker is very strange. When has a guard (or even player of his) done anything in the NBA?

99 called this a long time ago. Coupled with the fact we haven't been watching him. And the only articles with us in them about him, were that we were on his list. Not that I know, but it seems plausible that we really wanted Adams. He didn't commit early and almost blew it with Ali and Turtle. and things were heating up he realized he needed to take the spot before someone of his stature committed. We will see how this affects Newman (Adams). I'll take his talent not sure about the attention he needs (twitter). But I'm a old head and thought very highly of myself when I was his age. Lucky there was no twitter!

He also said HE "could bring back St Johns"…….from where? LOL……That statement alone would scare me about this kid…….

Quite frankly I'm sure Chief will be coming in to tell us that quite frankly, according to his sources, we're not in the best position with Briscoe

This does make sense, azescobar, supported by the fact that we didn't see any (or many) reports of KO or his staff following him around during the recent hoops events. It might just be that Adams was KO's top PG-Combo target and doesn't want to give Adams any reasons to second guess his decision, but also wants to make sure he carefully fills the future team's needs since he only has a handful of ships to offer right now. We do have a lot of PG-Combo type players that might still be around in the 2015/16 season, and KO is now focusing on the greater needs of a 2G or 2G-Combo (A player like a Ben Gordon who could slide over to the 1 but is a primary scoring guard), and/or a wing, and/or a couple bigs (4s, 5s, or 4/5 combos).

If he only tries to fill the number of ships that are presently available (4) for 2015/15, he's likely going to do some combination of the following:

Already filled:
PG-Combo - Adams

To be filled: (Any 3 of the below, though at least one from each group)

Group 1 (Perimeter Players):
2G
2G-Combo
Wing

Goup 2 (Bigs):
PF-4
C-5
4-5 Combo

My guess is as one of the needs get filled, the above list is adjusted. For example if they were to land Jones (wing) and KO might focus on landing 2 bigs if he feels he has enough perimeter players or he might decide he still wants another guard and will take the best big who is interested. What makes it tricky is the Stone/Newman combination. If KO were to get a verbal from another guard, then that will likely kill the chances of landing those two unless they decide to nix the package. If KO is able to land those two, then he's got a decision to either take Jones if interested or one of the 4 or 4/5 combos, like Enoch. That's why I'd like to see KO get 5 commitments, even though that's not a popular idea, assuming someone will likely move on to either the draft early or decide to go elsewhere to get more PT. Note I'm not encouraging anyone to speculate who that might be, which is frowned upon on the BY, but just about every season going back as far as I can remember, at least one player leaves early for one reason or another of their own accord, and none seem to be forced out.

Thing get a lot easier, though problematic if no one does leave early, to try to land 5 recruits so that he can stock up on a PG-Combo, 2G-Combo, Wing, 4 and a 5. Note that KO seem to often recruit combination-players who can play multiple positions, or many better put, do different things on the court, to provide roster flexibility.

A recruit like Enoch, provides some flexibility since he can probably give you some minutes at a the 5 if needed if his listed height is anywhere close to reality, but due to his skill set to step out and hit long Js, can even use him as a big wing if needed, even though he seems to be best fitted as a stretch-4 from what I've read.

Even Adams provides a lot of flexibility. even though he's recruited as a 1, from what I've seen and read. He's cut from the same mold as a Walker, Bazz & Boat, who can slide over to the 2 spot or the 3rd guard in a 3-G set, where he can be delivered the ball to score or create for himself and score.
