Is UConn Now The Favorite To Win The Big East Tournament In its First Year Back In The Conference?

Reags has been following and writing about college basketball for years. Total Kentucky homer but he knows his stuff
Disagree he does not know his stuff, we have not been mixing and matching whaley, the man plays 30+ minutes a game, hes pretending like hes done something besides watch the seton hall game and bouknight highlights, absolutely no mention of Cole?

Ugh Draftkings was down to +300. I still pulled the trigger.
Had to do the same. Lucky to live in a draftkings friendly state. Got to work through China right now. lol

Nova is still the favorite imo and we did not fair well against Creighton. Nova will not be intimidated and Creighton has forwards that won the games for them the first two times. We would have to find a way to shut them down. Everyone needs to hit shots for us to win the Tourney. No way one player has a run of great games and we win it all.

We were up 2 on Creighton with 6 seconds left with a 76% FT shooter shooting 2 free throws. And then we lost by single digits on the road without Bouk or Jackson in a 2 point game with 10 minutes left.

One can know a lot about basketball and not mention RJ Cole.

Wrong umboyo
It's hardly the same Big East. The New Big East is basically a conference of non-football playing Catholic colleges. The original Big East was much more similar to the major P5 conferences.

Wrong 'Em boyo.

NBE not BE. The original was NEVER a football conference, though.

Go Huskies!

Some dude: "UConn is going to win the Big East Tournament."

Details, details... They had a head coach back then as well

That’s called a loss.

Your reading comprehension is at a loss.
You’re trying to make it sound like something else. Or an excuse. You probably grew up in the trophies for all era...

It actually was a pretty good one. When Miami, VaTech, and BC went to the ACC they originally dominated that league. First year VaTech won it by beating Miami. Then VaTech played in the ACCchampionship game I think 5 of the first6 years. BC played in it twice. BC. When it Had a football league, it was very good but under appreciated nationally.

Good read until the last bullspit sentence. Why bother?

I would put it another way...the league is not good enough for Villanova. They have won or tied for the regular season title every year since the New Big East formed. Win 4 of 5 tournament titles. They are Gonzaga. The league is better than the WCC but not even close to Villanova . If they lose without their best player everyone else just needs to shut up about “the great Big East.”
When the team at the top of the conference not only has gotten a lot of #1 & #2 seeds over the last 6 NCAAs (5/6), but won a third of the titles (2/6), maybe it's the team is just really good?

Apply that logic to the B12. Kansas won or tied for for the B12 title every year from 2005 to 2018. They also won 8/14 of the conference champions. Was the B12 "not worthy" of Kansas over that time despite obviously having a number of other good teams?

Kansas's success speaks more to the quality of Kansas to the weakness of the B12. After the first two years or so, the same is true for the BE.

That's fair. Either way, I don't think it's good for the league for it to be so one-sided. They needed us back. A program with the funding and track record to give Nova legit competition once again.

It's also fair to say we needed the BE as well.
It’s also wrong. This BE is in its 8th year and has held 6 tournaments of which Nova has won 4.

I think I'm missing your point. Are you disputing 4 out of 5? If yes, we should probably rephrase. We meant 4 of the last 5. Not 4 out of a total of 5.

And they made the finals in 1 other. And won or tied for every regular season championship except 1. Face It. The Big East is 1. Villanova. 2. Everybody else. 11. DePaul. As far as the Big 12 comparison, Oklahoma, Ok State, Texas, at least, all had good teams over the years. Maybe you could argue Xavier in the NBE, but beyond that, it has been a 1st weekend flame fest.

The Big East really had a few iterations. The last one was far and away the best followed by the one from roughly 1980-85 ish. To get where this one stands, in the last true version with Syracuse, WVU, UConn etc the Providences and Seton Halls of the league simply COULD NOT COMPETE. Now they are considered contenders every year.
They were considered contenders for the period where they were recruiting our territory while we languished in the American. They are already falling back as we ascend.

Yeah let’s see how their recruiting goes over the next 5 years with Dan Hurley winning in the BE

No debate from me about that, just wanted you to put out the correct info. They were in OT in one championship game when they literally destroyed the NCAA field. While the final results would give an impression of utter laughable dominance they have been tested and when UConn makes it back to the FF they will have been as well.

He said since league formed in previous sentence and then followed it up with and 4 of 5 championships. I did not read that as 4 out of last 5 especially when it’s actually 4 out of last 6. My mistake.

It was made to be a basketball conference but it had some fine football programs in it's heyday and was considered a very strong football conference

From the Courant.
STORRS — There is a storm bearing down on New York City. There won’t be snow, or dangerous lightning or destructive winds associated with it. There’s no danger to property or power lines, but necessary precautions should be taken against bruised feelings and battered egos.
It has been a decade since the city’s forecast has had a March storm from the Northeast as torrential as this one. The UConn men’s basketball team is moving with high velocity toward Madison Square Garden, poised not just to rejoin old rivals at the Big East Tournament, but to reclaim it.

IMO, this is all a little premature and ballsy. Let’s win something first. We aren’t waltzing into MSG and taking the title with ease. Never have, never will. It is fought for.

Dom being a little over dramatic. I laughed reading the article this morning.
