I looked up Mike Cummings track record as Offensive Coordinator at Central Michigan from 2010 to 2013 and, well, you draw your own conclusions:

When Diaco announced his coaching staff, Cummings was the only hire that many of us were concerned out. He was an offensive coordinator who didn't call his own plays. His one claim to fame was that he developed a number 1 overall pick on the offensive line. Other than that accomplishment there were a ton of red flags.

Like Diaco he gets a pass for year 1 but its looking like we were right to be concerned. Possibly two coaches in a row that are going to sink themselves with a bad offensive coordinator hire.

The one thing that made Mike Cummings look attractive was that CMU produced a #1 NFL draft pick at the offensive line. Pretty much everything else is not very impressive. Let's hope that if Bob Diaco doesn't choose to replace him, that the results his UCONN offense in 2015 will produce, will be improved greatly from what happened in 2014.

There is nothing in the data set that points to a good offense or offensive improvement over time. Diaco has a track record on defense so we can have some confidence there.

Again, I'm not sold on Cummings as OC but you were comparing his years @ CMU to an offense that had an All MAC first team QB and NFL prospect @ QB.

My point is the offense trends are often dictated by the QB play and we know what we had.

The key role of the Offensive Coordinator is to develop QBs. At Central Michigan, both Brian Kelly and Butch Jones were very good at developing QBs. And, they continued to develop QBs at Cincinnati. They have track records and proved it could be done at Central Michigan. Cummings inherited a decent QB at Central Michigan and the results were OK at first, but I am concerned with the trend. In four years, the offense declined each year and at UConn it also declined. We can argue about the reasons, but there is nothing in the resume that points to an offense improving with him as OC. I am concerned.

We don't have a offensive guru on the staff and this is a big problem with our past history. Boring, poorly executed offense is killing our program.

I remember thinking to myself that he had to be lying about not watching film. The first thing he should have done on getting the job s study every piece of film on every returning player he was inheriting and putting together a scouting evaluation on every single returning player that had any film anywhere at all.

I agree completely. I still go to some games but passed on season tickets after the offense tanked under PP/GDL. People will pay to watch an exciting offensive team even if they lose more than they win. But when the offense becomes a never ending series of face-palming fumbles, sacks, interceptions, incompletions, penalties, 2 yard runs and poor play calling, all negating decent defensive play and resulting in repetitive, painful losses, well....I opted to save some time and money and become more of a TV follower, although as I said I do still attend a few games.
