Is this another "team of the century" year for Duke?!

I was hoping Duke would take a step back after Coach K retired but I have to give Scheyer credit for keeping them a recruiting juggernaut. But until they win a title, it will not mean much historically.
Thanks for the jinx.

Again, look at their numbers. Flagg was 17. Boozer is a man.

Someone tell me what made Flagg a better college player, with some numbers behind it. I don’t need subjectivity of this boards “experts”. Like the ignoramus uconngb.
A guy who uses names before forming a counter, because he doesn’t like an opinion on a thread discussing Duke.
This place is getting pretty rowdy. What happened to decorum? Btw, I have to announce that all my posts are patently absurd and I am FOS. So please take no offense!

This is hilarious, RuffRuff is now 100% all in on Duke. We're a couple days away from him saying this is one of the greatest college basketball teams of all time.
Am I? Or am I just taking a peak under the hood? I'd never say that, because they aren't - they do have some very clear strengths that will be hard to handle.

I think Boozer and Flagg are really close. Flagg projects better in the NBA due to the wing archetype being more valuable and scalable, but I think I'd take Boozer for his one year in college.

They're playing a pretty similar big playmaking role in the same offense, with almost the exact same usage, assist, and turnover rates. Their shooting from deep is similar, both in accuracy and frequency. Flagg was a little better at the foul line, but Boozer is way above average and drew a higher rate.

Boozer is much better at getting his own offense than Cooper. Flagg struggled in clutch because he didn't have a ton of wiggle, and his handle is still a work in progress. Boozer's ability in the post is relatively much more polished. He's an insane finisher, and his playmaking, skill, and savvy prevents him from being successfully doubled. I don't know how many And-1s he's had on the season, but it's a crazy amount.

Boozer is also a better rebounder. His combination of power and agility is elite. Flagg was a better rim protector, but the Duke defense is just as good this season with Boozer and his steal rate is actually higher than Flagg's.

So yeah, it's close. But Boozer's ability to get buckets at the highest of levels is more important than Flagg's defensive edge.

Yup - totally agree. Paragraph 3 is really what separates the two. Boozer has such good hands and balance. Flagg better pro, Boozer better 1 year college player. There is a maturity about Boozer that solidifies this Duke team.

He’s pretty much already there. Sucking up to Coach K kinda puts it over the edge.

Duke beats current projected 9 seed NC State on the road by 29.

Boozer with 26 points on 10 shots (!) with 9 rebounds and 3 assists.

They just hit +40 adjEM. Only 1 team ever has finished the season higher than 40 ('99 Duke).

They're not that good............

The question is who will be the Duke Slayer in the tournament this year ? Duke will not win it.

It's going to take a team with a weird matchup - like an Illinois and their bigs shooting lights out. A team with the size to hang, but shooting upside to make runs. A team with two solid guards. Maybe a Kansas, who can throw Counsel & DP at em, and have some interior size to stay strong in the paint.

They aren't losing before the Elite 8 - bank that.

Scheyer is becoming a really good coach. Some here hate to admit that. But imo even if Duke wins it all, I don’t think they are as good as UConn 24. So team of the Century - No

He has had two phenomenal freshmen come in the last two years in Flagg and Boozer. Both being instant stars and NPOY contenders from game one. He has also brought in very good complementary pieces in those freshmen classes and transfer classes. And by complementary I mean 4 other five stars in those two years and 3/4 four stars.

It is not arguable that he does a great job recruiting, filling out a roster and coaching defense. I just am unsure if he is coach Cal, or coach K. His offense the last two years has overly relied on those two star freshmen self creating shots.

It will be interesting to see how he does next year after losing potentially Sarr/Boozer/Evans/Ngongba/Brown and next years class being mediocre. Though they do have three top 15 players coming in and another top 25ish guy who is redshirting this year for them.

How he build his roster next year will be interesting - this upcoming class doesn't have the kind of firepower the last two had. He won't be able to rely on freshmen. I'd assume his roster will start with little boozer at point and Khamenia at the 3, although he hasn't looked all that good. Id expect him to be somewhat active in the portal.

Eye roll.

Because I've no said that once.

You don't even realize the things you say because you've said everything. You wouldn't shut up about Michigan and going undefeated. You said they're better than Duke was last season. You also said the top few teams this season aren't as good as Duke and the other few top teams last season. You also said Arizona is the best team in the country and also said they aren't as good as the hype. You also said Purdue is the best team in the country and now you talk about how much they suck. Now you won't shut up about how Duke is the best team and the team to beat.

And did I say any of them were the best teams of all time? I simply break down their rosters, acknowledging their strengths and matchup challenges. If you don't like that, feel free to ignore and join the homer in their one sided convo.

Must be really nice for AZ to bring athletes like Awaka and Aristolde off their bench. Dudes are beasts. (that will be interpreted as me saying Arizona is the best team of all time here).

Yes, Michigan. You talked about them going undefeated/being one of the best teams ever and of course you moved off of them when they lost only to move back onto them and then move off of them again when they lost.

You don't simply break down rosters. You constantly use hyperbole and contradict what you say based on the next game.

Your new verbal diarrhea was suggesting over and over again that Hurley must've been slow playing the season until the St. John's game at home which you've already backed off of after the close come from behind win against Seton Hall.

He has still yet to say why he posts on this board as I’ve not seen one post the entire year that comes even close to supporting UConn as much as his 4-5 other favorite teams.

And then he has the gall to say “we”

Such trash…,,it is fun to watch him twist though, that’s why I haven’t used ignore

I haven't backed off that. My whole point was wondering if Hurley holds onto things and keep them in his bag until the big tournament.

Best teams ever, never said. Hypothesizing whether they could go undefeated - sure. They haven't been far off - they have two losses, favored in both. Still super high on them - tend to watch teams as they present.

I. Can’t. Even

So now your saying they WOULDNT be one of the best teams ever if they were the first team in FIFTY years to go undefeated????

A little conspiracy theory, here. Who does the sponsors, media, NCAA hierarchy want in the finals?
I'll just leave it at that.

Big 10 bias for decades for tourney selection to get their to get the largest alumni base in front of screens.
