Is there a particular reason why you guys don't play other New England teams?

I don't see UMASS, Providence, Boston College, etc. on your schedule. From previous posts I've seen there may be some bad blood with BC, but you're so close to UMASS I would think that would be a big rivalry.

With the demise of the Big East a good number of what could be termed as regional rivalries also ended. Rutgers, St. John's, Villanova, BC, Georgetown etc. were all at one time or another honorable adversaries.The new league is geographically dispersed and a good number of the teams are still trying to find their sea legs so to speak. Based upon Uconn's unique level of achievement over the last two decades the true rivals are the most formidable teams that arise to an elite status within the woman's game. Naturally this can change from year to year. Currently, the list includes Notre Dame, South Carolina, Maryland, Baylor, Stanford etc. These are our rivals. I bow to these fine opponents and welcome them to the fray. May the best team win.

A team that misses by about 20 miles from being a New England team is Marist. I wish Geno would schedule them -- that could be more competitive than at least two thirds of the present schedule. The last thing I read (a year or two ago) is that Geno offered to play a game in Connecticut, but balked at a return trip to Poughkeepsie (NY) the next year.

I think he should take the home-and-home deal.

Are you talking about Duke which until maybe the last three or four years was a total embarrassment and not even close to the level of our Huskies???? We played in a BCC game just about four or five years ago and were nationally ranked a couple of times a while back. No reason for that type remark. We've got a decent list of kids that are playing in the NFL.

Oh come on now. Except for that nice little run during the Randy Edsall era UCONN football has never been anything to brag about. The Huskies were never that good even during the Yankee Conference days. Yes my age is showing lol

It is a shame that football plays such an important role in the decision making of conferences... I fear we are stuck. We are limited on high quality games to an out of conference schedule... There certainly seems to be some merit to a super conference of the women's basketball powers from our perspective, but I fear it will not get any attention anywhere...

UMass and UConn play each other in many sports, both men and women. In 2016 the football teams will meet at Gillette Stadium , and a new rivalry in ice hockey has just begun, with UConn joining Hockey East. I think there would be a lot of interest in seeing these long-time rivals go at it in basketball again, especially on the men's side. I expect the UMass women would fare no worse than some of the OOC teams UConn has played over the last few years.

Our "rivalries" seem to ebb & flow depending on the quality of our competition. There was Tennessee and for a while it seemed to be Duke... Then Rutgers... Recently Notre Dame...

None of our rivalries are based on the splits they seem to have in other geographical areas. Maybe because we don't have a football team with a national identity. South Carolina has SC and Clemson. Georgia has GA and Auburn... Michigan has Michigan and MSU... Lots of other examples...

Rhode Island was our arch rival back in the Yankee Conference days. We had a pretty good one in most sports with Syracuse, which is now over and done with for obvious reasons, although admittedly not in women's BB because they pretty much perennially suck, at least compared with us. I do remember them beating us once, I think it was...probably during the Clinton administration.

Yes, not to mention that the Blue Devils have never defeated UCONN in football since we upgraded to DIA in 2002. But, hey, congrats to them for their recent success, whipping up on conference opponents in the weakest of the P5 conferences.
