scu??????? bcu????

they are really trying to become bc north hugh??? maybe they should get beat writers to called them golden oranges? or the comish to call them cuse college university???

As i was watching prov vs cuse tonight that awkward looking New Yorks college team sign was everywhere in the Dome...I am embarassed for their fans that the school has to put up those signs everywhere. It makes the school look completely desperate especially when their dome is a quarter full. They might as well put up a sign saying "did you know Syracuse is in the same state as NYC? I guess our subpar marketing has an advantage on someone. I don't know what's worse...the "Great pick" commercial or thar Cuse NY sign?

From what I understand BCU is a college because they don't have an engineering program, if they did they would be a university.

I don't think engineering is required to be called "university". University just means that the school has multiple colleges under one roof. For instance, college of business and college of liberal arts. BC is certainly qualified to be a university, they just don't choose to. Given that BU already took BC's logical new name, I doubt BC ever calls itself university.

Well, it may be true that BC doesn't have an engineering program, but that's not why the institution doesn't call itself a university.

In truth, BC is classified by the Carnegie Classification system as a "Research University: High", meaning they're a university that (a) grants doctorates, (b) conducts research at (c) a high level of output. For what it's worth, by comparison, UConn is classified with about 100 others at the "highest" level, "Research University: Very High" (BC's tier of "RU/H" is about 100 as well).

The reason BC doesn't call themselves a university is primarily (a) name recognition, (b) the existence of a Boston University, (c) marketing. Again, for what it's worth, Dartmouth College is technically a university based on its doctoral and research output, and is classified in the "RU/VH" tier with UConn; they still call themselves a college primarily for branding reasons.

Damn you and your facts

would uconn say they are connecticuts university? or collecticuts college???

u guys are missing the point. no matter how silly it all is, the ppl in charge had to work around the fact that the suny system is what it is so they had to say college. so now they are SCU. its official.
