Is Stanford Dodging Uconn?

Don't feel so special. Baylor ducked everyone this year.
Hey, are you quoting me without giving me credit? Here was the actual quote that you responded to recently..."She didn't avoid UCONN this year for her OOC, she avoided everybody." I am now glad to we see I to I. ;)

Hey @easttexastrash, do you have any backstory regarding your avatar pict? I remember the event, but I wonder if anyone knows what prompted it?
The best part of this picture is the reactions of Shea and Marisa.:p:D

It's a bit disingenuous for Tara to say that UConn and Stanford don' t recruit the same players. Starting with Sue Bird and continuing through Lou, the list is extensive and will likely continue to be so.
I remember Stanford being one of Rebecca's choices as well when she was choosing where to go.

Query, is Stanford dodging Geno and UCONN? Absolutely and here are two good reasons while Karlie Samuelson continues to play for Stamford.

Tara would not want to be judged (i.e., or compared to Geno) for her failure to develop both Bonnie and Karlie into a star player. Both KLS sisters are/were nothing more than role models at Stamford. Tara's nightmare would probably show in a head-to-head matchup between Bonnie and KLS. (Note there is no guarantee that KLS would beat Karlie this year. But next year, KLS would be a different player by then.) Based on his conduct so far, Geno is making all the necessary investment during KLS' freshman year. Geno will ride on KLS a lot more than Tara ever did to her other two sisters.

Lastly, before KLS joined UCONN, both sisters shared a lot of Stamford secrets. I know, I know. This is an assumption on my part. But would Tara take a chance on a head-to-head matchup?

IMHO, had KLS gone to Stamford, I believe that she would be nothing more than a carbon clone of Bonnie's and Karlie's career. Please, just my two cents opinion because I follow two WCBA teams, UCONN and Stamford for the last 20 and 10 years respectively.

Should that happen, my arguments go down the drain. It remains to be seen whether Tara schedules UCONN or not for 2016-17.

For those who think she is dodging... If she schedules UConn, then what?
We are talking about 2016-2017. The Courant said they are NOT on next season's schedule.
IF, they end up playing next year, someone did not tell the truth, and the dodging in over.
End of story.

Why would they dodge UConn? They have the longest winning streak against the Huskies of any team in wcbb! (I think.)

How far ahead are schedules made? Is it the season before that the games are set up or is it further in advance (starting a series a couple seasons from now for instance)? I could believe that UConn not being on their schedule this year had to do with scheduling, it could be possible that scheduling is the problem for next year as well if dates can't be agreed on.

UConn 13 LadyVol 9. It is quite delicious that the 4 game margin can be explained
by UConn winning all 4 games in the national title game against them...1995, 2000, 2003
and 2004.

Geno is fond of saying that, yes, the Tennessee LadyVols have eight national championships.

Then he is quick to add that, "They would have twelve, but they played us in four NC games -- and lost every one." (Or words to that effect, less politely stated. ;) )

Then you should know it is Stanford.

KLS was the (nearly) consensus #1 player in her class.

Karlie was rated 70, 77, and 95 by BS/HG/ASGR. Bonnie was 35/61/21. Based on that, neither were projected to be "star" players.

Now, do I think Geno is better at developing talent? Absolutely, but not even Geno could've turned Karlie and Bonnie into star players. Will Courtney Ekmark be a star at UConn despite being rated in the Top 10 on two services? Or Gabby Williams, who was rated as high as #2 (I do think Gabby will be very good, but feel Tuck, Nurse, KLS, Collier and Dangerfield will be the stars at UConn in the next 2 years)?

That was just prior to the start of the last game they played us at the XL Center. It was hilarious, I think about the tight leather Kim always wears! Ironically the lawsuit Geno was involved in was still ongoing at that time.

To be taken seriously you really have to get the school's name correct....It's S T A N F O R D not Stamford. First time you got it right and then FIVE times wrong.

I have no problem with Stanford not being on the schedule for a couple years. We've played them quite often over the past few years. I'm always up for playing someone new. Let's do Oregon, or Oregon St. or UCLA, somebody we haven't played all that much lately from out there.

I agree, but the point of the thread is that Tara may be backing away from playing Uconn.
It would be nice, while KLS is with Uconn, that the team make a West Coast swing and play 2 or 3 teams out there. ... time will tell.

Used to be that Stanford was one of only four schools that Geno had a losing record against (thinking back to a factoid from 2008 or so). Now we have a narrow lead in the series.

Sad part is that one of the others was an 0-1 record against US International, which no longer exists. I remember La Salle (all from early in his career). Forget the other one. Maybe it was Iowa State.

If you want to play someone out west play UCLA. At least its in Lou's backyard and they have enough talent over the next 4 years to keep it close. Could never figure out why UConn never scheduled a game for KLM in LA area, unless she didnt want one or didnt care if they played in So. Cal.

I cut Connecticut residents (present or former) some slack on that typo since they're so used to seeing Stamford, CT. I'm sure I've done it

No doubt on the typo angle.....BUT to get it right the first entry and then blow 5 straight? I try not to be overly critical about spelling and grammar (lest I be hammered for my own when they inevitably occur) but some just defy common sense and this one hit the button.

Just wanted to set the record straight on KLS. Tara knew, as everyone else, except for some isolated WBB fans in the northeast, that KLS was going to go to UConn! After Bonnie, Karlie was undecided between UConn & Stanford, but chose Stanford so as to be closer to home. Katie Lou had decided some time ago she wanted to play at UConn, and although, Tara would have loved to have her at Stanford, it was widely known, and accepted, that she was going to UConn. As far as the Stanford - UConn series goes, I heard it was a scheduling conflict this year, but haven't heard anything in regards to next year.
