Is Michigan the Best opponent

I was surprised to see that Vegas had UCONN as an opening line 14.5 point favorite over Michigan.
I expected it to drop since the spread was so high, but it actually jumped to UCONN at -15.5.
Not sure if UCONN is so highly regarded or if Michigan's win over Notre Dame is undervalued. Maybe a bit of both?

The early season is a challenge in judging how good a team is and the ND/Michigan blowout is another example of that. ND is not that bad and Michigan is not as good as a 39 point win would indicate. ND made 9% of their 3’s, shooting 2-22 and shot only 39% from inside the arc with 15/38. An off night that compounded itself. This will be a competitive game for a stretch but the constant tenacious defense and utilizing a very strong bench will wear Michigan down and lead to a 15-20 point UConn win.
As a recent example, Notre Dame, the 39 point loser to #6 Michigan, just knocked off #11 USC by 2 points. The early season is a challenge in judging how good a team is.

Notre Dame will live & die with Hannah Hidalgo's performance. Tonight, she was unstoppable. Against Michigan, she faltered badly.
I agree! The early season is so unpredictable.

Michigan is a very good team! I would say better than most of us thought they would be however, UConn didn’t move the ball well at all after that first quarter. Geno will address that I am sure.
I am still waiting for them to hit their stride on the offensive end. Something just seems off so far with their offense. Maybe it is that their role players are not hitting their shots so far in the early season. What is going on with Shade? Her shot seems to be rushed! Anyone else notice this? We still have lots of time to figure it all out.
Anyway, congrats to Michigan and particularly Swords! She played lights out from three point range all night. She is a very impressive talent.

I gave scholarly papers at conferences held there twice. It's in the middle of nowhere. It's one of the lesser SUNY campuses.
SUNY Binghamton is a rising school, academically. And for students from the NY Metro area who go to school anywhere in NY's western tier (Cornell, Ithaca, Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo), you have to drive through Binghamton to get there.

Ash hit her first two 3s, but went downhill from there. Mich was daring KK to take 3s in the 4th Q, and you have to go for it when you're that wide open, but maybe not in the closing minutes of a close game. Down the stretch, I want the ball in the hands of Sarah or Azzi.

Scrappy defense. But what we really need now is offensive consistency.

Heart-stopping game. I hope all our BYers survived OK.

Something to think about. We beat 3 great teams last season in the FF and had them all by a lot. What has so many of you so concerned about UConn in this game. Michigan is a really good team but not as talented as UConn. We will win by double digits and I dont think there will be much of a challenge. Im not putting Michigan down they are good but then theres UConn.
This aged well.

Great game to learn from and still get a win. These games are scheduled for learning against tough opponents. If the Huskies win, it's a bonus in Geno's mind. These games are all about preparation for March. There will be plenty of material from this game for Geno to improve and plenty of really good moments too. Exactly what you want in this type of early season game.

At that moment, I think Geno meant so far this season. But it may also turn out to be true for the entire regular season.
I don’t know the exact quote, but I believe he meant in the early part of the season.

Safe to say that Michigan is our best opponent that we have face so far this season, especially if teams play a trapping zone, got snipers, and got some length on them. Hats off to Michigan. As a Michigan WBB season ticket holder, I gotta say I am pretty excited making that flight or drive from Minneapolis to Ann Arbor to watch some Michigan Wolverines this season. Heck I always enjoy watch Minnesota and Michigan WBB games. Growing the game, I love.

What is the purpose of that observation?
One could easily point out that if UCONN shot at their average for the third quarter it is most certainly a bigger UCONN win.
There is no end to hypotheticals. They are all senseless. Period.
The comment was made to counter another ‘senseless’ hypothetical (if Huskies shoot better in the 3rd it’s a double digit win).

Both teams had 2 quarters where they torched the other team and two quarters of pretty even scoring. UCONN won the game despite it being close. Both teams have areas they excelled in and areas they played below their potential.

.-.
Yes. Michigan is the best opponent we will face.
No. Maybe regular season opponent. Don't be surprised if they don't get past the Elite Eight.
