I think the Big East is in trouble. Besides UConn and Creighton, who else in this conference do you see being able to make a run in the NCAA? Not just make the dance, but go to the Elite 8 or better? Hate to say it, but the overall quality of the conference is at a pretty low point.
Xavier and st johns. Most surprise teams benefit from a bracket collapse. See duke last year. Creighton and Marquette were better last year . St. Johns, georgtown are clearly better this year. Providence has a great class coming in next year. If villanova gets a new coach, they can be good next year with the portal. Marquette failed to make a run with 2 great teams which hurt the conference. 5 bid league and hopefully things break in big east favor.

Nova should be getting the best coach in the country.

Speedy might be good but he's never won a tournament game and he took over a very healthy program from Joe Mihalich.
So are you saying they should be getting Dan Hurley, the best coach in America?

LOL other than the Big 12 and SEC who has more than 2 that could be elite 8 caliber? Not the ACC or Big 10 so just the Big12 and SEC and both are loaded. I would put Marquette, Xavier, and St. Johns up with anything else the ACC or Big 10 can throw at that wall.

I don’t care how he rallies the rest of the season, they’ll regret it if they don’t get rid of him. You’ve gotta rip that bandaid off asap.

I'd certainly reach out to TJ Oztelberger, Grant McCasland, maybe Ryan Odom if he has a strong year.

Unfortunately last year was such a big cycle in terms of big jobs, most of the decent+mobile candidates have been recently plucked. Might need to see who pops this year.

Sad to say UConn will probably need to jettison itself from the Big East in the not-too-distant future and latch on with a power conference.
The argument of those stuck in the BE will make is that because they don’t have to wrestle with FB, is that all their resources are put into hoops and that will keep them relevant as a top hoops conference. This is generally faulty thinking because the trend is because of football, the P4 programs have big TV deals and the $$ to sink into other sports, while also building their overall brand nationally.

You then see this vividly in top recruits, who have their pick of the litter in programs and going to P4 conferences. In today’s world the most marketable programs will be those that send their players to the NBA and keep their brand alive well beyond graduation.

With COVID years gone offering college players the added year and stunting development of HS kids, you’re now seeing a movement back to impact freshman, as we’re seeing. The two best players on the court last night for AZSt were talented freshman.

The BE is going to have to find ways of manufacturing sustainable success versus the top programs which will attract the A+ talent. Doable potentially but uphill. Can you win with predominantly 80+ types and developing/retaining year over year?
Butler may be interesting to watch over the next couple years as they’re bringing in a decent class with 4 of those type of kids, and Matta is thought to be a good coach.

IMO a coach Nova should have their eye on is Chris Gerlufsen of San Francisco. He’s kept them very competitive since Golden left, coaches a good offensive system, and is from Philly.

I watched much of the St Joes game

Fundamentally unsound, giving up uncontested layups, and running ugly offense

He's gotta go, the sooner the better for Nova

Boggles my mind in today’s world of information at your finger tips, resources and data/analytics that a coach can suck this bad. How hard is it to teach a movement and spacing offense? You can google it. When you see Hurley, Oates and Pope at the top of the game using it successfully why would you ever think running a stand around and watch one guy go is a good idea? It’s one thing if you’re middling and fine tuning something it’s another when you take good players and make them a sh8tty team year over year.

Maybe Neptune has no interest in being good and just took the payday to leverage into his own high end mock turtle neck line.

Saw a bunch of stuff on twitter about this matchup: the team Tony Bennett quit on who’s somehow an underdog to a flailing Nova.

I went with UVA +10 in a teaser action, they’re up double digits all game.

This cat is cooked.

Yeah but you're Villanova hiring Chris Gerlufsen. He of 0 NCAA tournaments (unless they make it this year).

I get your point but Big East is a power conference in basketball.
I'm not sure that the other power conferences would agree.

Power conferences don't have years where they only land three schools in the tournament (they actually said, when referring to SH getting snubbed that the BE is not a power conference) and sadly, things will not get better for the conference as a whole.
