Is John Scheyer the worst coach in college basketball?

I always love it when UConn fans crap on programs that are good every year because they don’t finish strong in the tournament. UConn produces a solid team every few years and they always seem to fall backwards into the Final Four. Making it that far is really hard and only 4 teams get to do it. Very hard to be consistently good year in and year out.

I don't understand why he's perceived as a great recruiter. Every time I hear him speak he sounds dull and unenthusiastic. He's at Duke. Which is pretty easy to recruit to. He had Coach K and Duke when he recruited those players you mentioned. You and I probably could have landed those players if we were in the same situation.
I am not saying I disagree with you at all. I’m just saying that there are numerous players that claim he was the reason they chose Duke.

Sure, but it’s a lot easier to be “good every year” and “consistently good year in and year out” when you manage to “fall backwards” into a top 10 recruiting class, every year, year in and year out.

Per 247sports, here’s Duke’s recruiting class ranks:

2025-#1
2024-#1
2023-#2
2022-#1
2021-#6
2020-#3
2019-#3
2018-#1
2017-#1
2016-#1

Over the same period, UConn had four top 10 classes.

So, yeah, given our two championships and Duke’s goose egg in the past ten years, I’m not ready to stop “crapping” on Duke’s NCAA results.
