While I continue to hit refresh to see who is coming and going, both players and staff, I am actually impressed by Candle’s approach. He is trying to allow Toledo to finish their season on a high note, leaving players and staff in as good a place as possible. But my guess is everything is lined up for a flurry of announcements starting as soon as the 24th. While I’d like answers NOW, I’m a world of coaches and players selling their souls, I’m actually impressed by our new coach’s approach.

The Coaching staff will determine a lot of this as well. The composition of the staff will be at least as important as the excitement surrounding initial announcements of new players coming in. Plenty of room for speculation in the coming months for Boneyard cheerleaders and skeptics.

We have a heck of a schedule on tap for next year. Who knew we'd have a Hall of Fame Coach and a CFP team coming in on successive weeks? Every home game including the week 1 discovery game has it's own story. Portal guys might want to factor that in to their decisions.

Are we assuming Coach C is just gonna ask his coaches from Toledo to follow him? I want to be better than Toledo but I don't follow them to know if getting his old coaching staff to UConn is the direction we should be rooting for.

Worth a read:

-> Kehres said that all Candle’s great qualities – his passion, his work ethic, his recruiting skills, his program or culture building – translate well to higher levels. He believes UConn made a great hire, and that Candle will benefit from being in a place where guys like Geno Auriemma, Jim Calhoun and Dan Hurley have thrived.

“UConn knows what excellence looks like, sounds like, smells like and feels like,” Kehres said. “They just do. When you have a sense of what that is in an athletic department, that can get catchy. That can be like the measles. It can be infectious and spread. <-

I can see what you’re saying if you felt like they’re going to bring in the same level recruits, but the hope would be with more support and NIL they should be able to find better talent to come here. But also, if he comes in and never has a losing season for us I’m not exactly going to be mad at that either. I think the honest truth is, as an independent we are more of a peer to Toledo than a superior though.

I’m going to guess some, not all. Let’s not forget some of Mora’s coaches came from FCS. Gordon Sammis was at William and Mary. The first OC was the head coach at Maine. I’m thinking guys who haven’t had a losing season over 10 years might have some knowledge about finding assistants.

It has been reported that the Toledo coaches that are coming with him where told by him to stay with the team through their bowl game. I think that the Toledo hires that may already be doing some work for UConn but not announced are those whose roles aren’t involved in the upcoming bowl

Keep the band together. They were successful before and hopefully will be at UConn. If they bring much of staff and some key players it could be a positive. Feel next year under Mora was going to be a rebuild with all of the departures.
