Is anyone else offended at the mistaken ESPN headline "Rick Pitino could give Big East fifth title this century" | The Boneyard

Is anyone else offended at the mistaken ESPN headline "Rick Pitino could give Big East fifth title this century"

Instantly came to the boneyard to post exact same thing. Made me angry reading it lol

But that's classic Lunardi, just getting under UConn fans' skin so ¯\(ツ)

I'm confused why I'm supposed to be upset by that headline

I think it's just more along the lines of BE having 2* if you remove UConn, so why not pay homage to us. Small potatoes in the grand scheme of things.

Why are we supposed to be offended?
How many has the Big East already won this century? 6, correct? UConn in 2004, 2011, 2023, and 2024 and Villanova in 2016 and 2018. Do we count Syracuse's in 2003? I guess we have to. So 7 is the answer.

Then he wrote this in the article:

The Big East has won four national championships in the past decade; it's also not unthinkable the Red Storm make it five.

So the headline should have said "decade" and not "century". So I guess blame whoever wrote the headline.

Lunardi's comment was 4 titles in the last decade. Which is correct, 2 for UConn and 2 for Villanova

I know its not a big deal but this just annoys me, you know they would never disrespect the ACC this way
If you are counting this century (since 2000) the # of Big Eats Titles is either seven or eight depending on how you count the 2014 UCONN title sine they were in the AAC at the time

Uconn 04 11 14 23 24
Villanova 16 18
Syracuse 03

Are you offended because it's poor wording? Or that Pitino is mentioned? Or... Kind of confused.

The answer is 7. 14 was not the Big East. I guess Louisville would be 8 if you still consider it.

You wouldn't count 2014.

And officially, can't count Louisville's 2013 NC while in the BE.

UConn was not in the Big East in 2014. UConn had 4 this century, plus Nova and Cuse.

Why are we supposed to be offended?
Yeah if St. John's can win it that is great for the Big East and helps UConn as they are still the premier team in the league. Big East needs more attention so UConn can't win it then I'm fine with St. John's winning it.

Do we have to get into the the NBE and the OBE are two different leagues thing? I, for one, say yes. Making 5 correct.

I want UConn in a better league. The BE has struggled to have our opponents in the top 25.
And the names are just not sexy enough. Butler, Xavier, Creighton, Providence, Seton Hall, DePaul?
These matchups now pale in comparison to SEC, B1G, Big 12 and even ACC to some degree even though they are not strong this year.
The reffing sucks and you need armor to play the games. It’s better than where we were the American but we need out.

Let's be honest, there's also another Big East NC in 2013
In an age of shoddy journalism a comple lack of research is not
surprising or the story misleading
Its true it would be number 5 for the current conference ,
but honest journalism would point out it would be a remarkable 5 in only its 12th season . As the conferences first year was
2013-14
If you add in the Old Big East
2004 ,2011, UConn
2013 Louisville ,Syracuse 2003
That would be number 9

If you add by current Big East Teams
Drop Louisville , Cuse add UConn 2014 it would be number 8
If your real honest since the AAC was also and heir to the Old Big East it actually would be number 10 in 25 or 26 years .
There’s a number of ways to count but the story is a bit complicated and should come with an explanation
I think counting NC won by current teams this century is the fairest that wiould 8

I think it sucks because it reads like Pitino could give the Big East a title for the 5th time personally.

Meanwhile, I'm fine with the separation of the Big East and AAC and allowing the Catholic 7 to take the Big East name and records. I've finally accepted it.

How refreshing to see the Yard taking a break from whining about the refs. We may not have the talent to three-peat, but when it comes to playing the victim card we continue to be champions.
