How does an iPad with cellular work? Do I need to connect it to my cell phone, or does it connect to the internet via its own cell service?

Connects to the internet with its own cell service. If you have a smart phone you could most likely use it as a hot spot and avoid any additional device charges. My S4 allows me to connect something like 8 devices to it as a hotspot. It draws off my data cell plan data.

I have and am using one now ...in settings theres a place to sign up for mobile cellular package through verizon...when u start the process u choose ur name,pass,and one of 3 or 4 cellular packages- $20 for 1gb is the cheapest then put your credit card info in and boom you have instant internet.

VZW/ATT allow you to attach it to your cell data share for $10/mo. Pretty good deal.
