  • Overall: 22-10
  • vs Big 12: 12-6
Best wins over Kansas and Bayl0r at home. Bad losses to Drake and UNI.

Leading scorer is 6'8" 270 lb. forward Royce White @ 13.1 ppg, second is senior guard Scott Cristopherson @ 12.5 ppg and who is shooting 45% from 3.

Royce White is also their leading rebounder at 9.6 rpg. Team has a +4.6 rpg margin on the year.

They have 5 players shooting higher than 38% from 3. That's definitely a concern.

Looks like we'll be significantly bigger than them.

ISU played really well towards the end of the season. Most of their questionable losses were at the beginning. This is not a good matchup for the Huskies. This will be a very very very tough game.

If we win this game though, we will have conditioned ourselves well for a game against UK...but I think we have, at best, a 50/50 shot of beating ISU. I'm really scared...

Royce is a load to handle, kind of like an Anthony Mason type so he's going to be able to draw our bigs outside and if you put Roscoe on him he can take him into the post. Don't like this matchup at all.

3-PT shooting percentages:
Bubu Palo - 45.5% (only on 5/11 however)
Scott Christopherson - 45.0% (63/140)
Anthony Booker - 44.4% (16/36)
Tyrus McGee - 41.0% (50/122)
Chris Allen - 38.3% (72/188)
Chris Babb - 33.5% (64/191)
Royce White - 33.3% (4/12)

Looks like they have 4 guys who shoot A LOT of threes.

That's my number one concern.

i think isu will be a really tough out and i hope the players don't start thinking about uk too early, like everyone in the media will.

Those 3 pt numbers scare me with our defense. We've been defending the three better lately but this team cannot fall asleep on defense. Hopefully we can keep that defense going and our size advantage helps us. Looking forward to it.

They play man, but can go on significant scoring drouts and take themselves out of games. Huskies will need to capitalize and step on their throats. AO is key in this game for gaurding Royce, he cannot get in foul trouble. Also boxing out will be key because three ball rebounds are easy offensive boards. In Jim I trust.

Man on man is definite + for us. I'd rather not see zone, unless their frontline is small. We obviously have more athletes. Our key is definitely making sure they shoot <40% from 3s.

They have not won away from home against the Top 100 (KState being an exception). UConn has done much better at that.

that is true but the only game iowa state has not been in on the road was texas. they had leads inside of the 8 minute time out against baylor, kansas, and mizzou. they had a double digit lead against texas twice in the big12 tournament but could not put the horns away.

Iowa state's average class per minutes played is 1.08 higher than UConn's. That spread is the third highest among the opening round games. They are also higher ranked in the aggregate view of Kenpom's four factors. On paper, they are the better team.

Their biggest wins came at home. Should be a great game but gotta love more experienced teams in tournament play and on a neutral court.

All going to depend on which AD and AO show up offensively and if UConn can guard the 3. It is promising knowing that their best player is a post player and UConn has a very intimidating front line. If they can keep the 3 in check well, then UConn could keep them at bay.

Seems like Royce is a Kevin Jones/ Yancy Gates type of player. On their scouting report they think we will have trouble with his lateral quickness.

Drummond on him all day.

No, the less Royce shoots the better Iowa State. He averages 5 assists a game, so the fewer shots he takes the more shots the three point shooters take.

I think its going to be very important to stick to your assignment. We have a horrible habit of sometimes playing too much help defense.

Drummond should be able to defend White 1 on 1...even if he gets his (16-20 pts) that is fine.

What I don't want to see is Lamb and especially Bazz leaving their man to double down. Its freking Andre Drummond...he can D up his own man.

What is the report on Drummond? Can he stop penetration? Had UT left Chapman in the game ISU wins cuz Royce could take him to the hole all day,
