Iowa played as inspired as they've played all season (and I do think that the jersey retirement had a lot to do with it), but the lack of coaching by Lindsay Gottlieb (especially in that 4th quarter) needs to be mentioned. If JuJu wasn't from LA, Gottlieb would be back coaching at UCSB by now.

Hope this gets the fanbase off the coach and team's back for a while. Yes the team has struggled but man, some of the comments I've read on the Iowa board were surprising to me. Thought there would be a bit more patience for the squad while they figured things out.

This really was an entertaining game. Iowa gets out to a shocking 18-1 1st period lead only to have USC grab halftime lead at 29-28.
Trojans continue rally by going up by 6 late in the 3rd, but Hawks go up by one on buzzer beater end of quarter. USC ties it at 53 on Avery Howell 3 at the 9:19 mark but Lucy Olsen gives Iowa the lead for good 27 seconds later. 1-2 possession game the rest of the way until the very end.

I'm assuming this is based on being at the game. I don't know much about the history between NC State and Clemson to say anything otherwise.
Clemson has no noteworthy women's basketball history to speak of. I know of nothing special between the two in that respect.

The programs do have a rivalry in football (the textile bowl) and somewhat a general rivalry as ACC founding members and geographically adjacent land grants.

Appreciate the insight provided. Updating my handbook accordingly to keep up. ;)

I agree it was a wonderfully entertaining game. The crowd was into it. The players stepped up, especially in the fourth quarter really played some inspired basketball on a a very big night in Iowa basketball.

Clemson was one of the best teams in the ACC in the late 1990s.

Including their one trip to the elite 8 and three other trips to the Sweet Sixteen? Which pretty much sums up their entire history.
Two ACC tournament championships in four seasons in the late 1990s says that they were one of the best teams in the ACC during that time period, no?

I'm not saying that they were a juggernaut. But, during the time period that I stated, they were a great team. They also had one of the best players in the history of the ACC during the 80s. None of that suggests that they didn't have any basketball history to write home about.

If that meets your definition of “great,” so be it.

In the context of the ACC, during the period that I clearly defined, it is.

You don't know the ACC, and that's fine. But I do, which is why I commented.
