No, I don't mean #2 South Carolina (9-0) waging a titanic struggle against somewhat overmatched Hampton (1-7)

But Tennessee/Stanford at 9 (on one of ESPN's family of networks)
Two programs which have seen better days

Which one has fallen further?

Tune in and you'll find out.

It will be interesting - TN has in the past (as many programs not named uconn do) played down to its competition or alternatively played up to the competition. (Glass half full/half empty question.) So while they have struggled mightily against weak teams, I expect them to play better than last time out - whether that is good enough to win at Stanford we shall see.

Of the two game (Stanford & Oregon St) road trip to PAC12 country, I would think Lady Vols have best chance of beating Stanford. IMHO they need to split these two games to remain in the Top 25. Lose both and they're not in Top 25.

Texas has played both teams this season already. The Horns beat Tennessee by 11 points and Stanford by only eight. Thus, Stanford wins. Obviously.
Just to add, they beat Tenn AT Tennessee, but beat Stanford at home. If you add/subtract 3-4 points for each home team, it makes the gap slightly larger. Having said that I know you can't use MOV as a determiner, but I sure hope Stanford stomps them...

It was last season, I know, but Texas beat Stanford in Palo Alto as well. Some of that may have been while they were on a bit of a high after the UConn upset, but they completely shellshocked the Cardinal. I've noticed that Stanford seems to play to the level of their competition lately as well. It'll be an interesting game for sure and a bit of a toss up. It depends which teams show up on either side.

For the second straight week, Duke (13th), Tennessee (14th) and Stanford (15th) were outside the top 10. Last week marked the first time since the final poll of the 1985-86 season that none of those three women's basketball powers were among the first 10 teams in the poll.

It's funny. I think of Stanford as a programming that is regrouping not falling. Much as UConn regrouped after Taurasi left. Tennessee is definitely a program in decline and I expect it will continue to fall as recruiting tanks.

Have you heard anything about the 2017 recruiting class? Tennessee is going after a ton of kids and supposedly was leading for a top 5 post player among others.

I'm sure that UTenn went after a lot of recruits in the 2016 class and they ended up with a big goose egg.

True, so 2017 will probably be a decent year for them. However besides the goose egg (unless they can pick up some JCs) in 2016, 2015 wasn't that great either. Cooper could be good, Jackson, eh not really that highly rated. And that was the only 2 they got. No height in either class.

msf I thought you were going to make a reference to the USWNT playing tonight. If any of you are fans of our countries Women's Soccer team they play tonight on Fox Sports 1. I would be remiss (being born in Rochester NY) if I didn't mention the fact that it is Abby Wambach's last game :(

Stanford is a 5 point favorite at home tonight against Tenn. The Vols have Oregon State on deck and
could be flying home with two more loses on there resume. I don't think anyone around here would
want that to happen.

Actually , I am pulling for Stanford tonight because of the Samuelson connection. Cardinal should win it at home. But Tennessee could get loose with Deshields and Graves. Should be a good game.

Nice post. It reminded me to watch this game. I hate this time of year(NO Uconn games).
I think it will be interesting; both teams not doing so well, but a chance to improve their standing. Thanks.

Tennessee has a streak on the line. It does not have an away victory over a ranked opponent for a number of years.
I do not know the number. Someone here will know for sure.
